Typically component, but it requires a digital (i.e. HD) television. If you're playing it on an HDTV, you'll want the component cables anyway, since S-video can't carry a high-definition signal. On a normal standard-definition TV, the difference between the two will be negligible.

i was on futureshop today (10:40am) and they were already sold outa xbox 360's. Well it does make sence, 50 xbox 360's on a first come first serve basis nation wide. Now I dont get a couple things..

this is the stuff that's in the futureshop bundle:

"- XBOX 360 Hard Drive (20 GB): 20GB and detachable, the hard drive allows gamers to store their games, music, downloaded trailers, levels, demos and community-created content from XBOX Live Marketplace and more.

- XBOX 360 Memory Unit (64 MB): Easily portable, this lets gamers save games, in-game achievements and unique gamer profiles for quick and easy access on the go.

- XBOX 360 Wireless Controller: The same hassle-free high-performance precision wireless gaming that comes with the premium edition features the XBOX Guide Button for quick access to digital movies, music and games libraries as well as a range and battery life of up to 30' and 30 hours of life on two “AA” batteries.

- XBOX 360 Play & Charge Kit: This allows plug and play for high-performance, precision wireless gaming with the XBOX 360 Wireless Controller. Gamers will be given ample warning when the end of battery life is nearing so they can connect the Play & Charge cable for uninterrupted play.

- XBOX 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack: This provides up to 25 hours of gameplay for wireless gaming fun.

- XBOX 360 Wireless Networking Adapter: With this, gamers can chat with friends and play games via XBOX Live, as well as stream videos and music to XBOX 360 from a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-based PC, all without the clutter of wires.

- XBOX 360 Headset: This heightens the XBOX Live experience by letting gamers strategize with team-mates or trash-talk opponents while playing games.

- XBOX 360 Universal Media Remote: This integrated control center for the entire digital experience lets consumers play DVDs, movies and music, as well as control a TV and their Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-based PC controls with a single controller.

- XBOX 360 VGA HD AV Cable: Gamers can experience high-definition gaming on flat-panel TV or VGA monitors. This cable provides optimal audio and video signal transfer..*Please Note: Releasing November 2005."

Things I don't get:

1) XBOX 360 Wireless Networking Adapter?! Didn't say that this would come with the bundle on xbox.com..

2) XBOX 360 VGA HD AV Cable.. the xbox site says its supposed to be a component hd av cable, even the pic of future shop.ca shows a component hd av cable... no vga cable. (see the bundle here http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10066139&catid=23363)
(see the different cables here http://www.xbox.com/en-CA/xbox360/xbox360accessories.htm)

3) XBOX 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack and the XBOX 360 Play & Charge Kit according to xbox.com, are extra. http://www.xbox.com/en-CA/xbox360/xbox360console.htm shows whats in each bundle. (US http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/xbox360console.htm)

4) XBOX 360 Memory Unit, also stated as seperate from the bundle on xbox.com

Now all this is great, well exept the cable.. if it comes with composite and vga cable I'll hate 'em- if it comes with vga and component hd av cable (as stated on xbox.com) I'll be pleased. All those extras are awesome and all for the same price $499CAD/$399USD. But maybe thats a futureshop only bundle, that includes those extras, and other stores don't have all those extras... might be an online pre-order special that includes those extras-when it hits the shelves it may be different, maybe less accecories that the online pre-order bundles?

If you look around, you'll find that nearly all online retailers are selling ONLY bundles that include extra stuff. The system itself does include the HD component/composite cables you mention. Anything other than that is an extra.

It seems like they're packing in a lot of useless stuff, charging extra for things you don't need. Like the memory card. If you have a hard drive, you don't need the memory card. Just like most people don't need the VGA cable, either, but they're still charging you for it.

My advice: Don't buy online. Just go down to the store in person. That's the only way you'll be able to buy just the system and whatever accessories you want, rather than what they force you to buy. Online has never been a good option for buying consoles, especially at launch.

yea i know, eb games has really high priced bundles with useless crap in them, but the 2 bundles that microsoft is releasing, the core and premium, are good. The premium one has pretty much everything you need, nothing you don't need. Component hd av cable, 1 wireless controller, remole-well it's sorta usless unless you're using the box and a dvd player~like I will, hard drive, a headset-needed for online play~well not needed, but needed for real time communication, and the system. I see nothing useless in this bundle.

Regarding the memory card.. it can be useful if you wanna go to a friends place to play xbox 360, but you don't want to waist time creating a new profile in the game, without actually bringing over your hard drive.

Random question: can you stream files to a coputer or another xbox 306 via ethernet.. over xbox live?

You are right on the money. The in store sales are the way to go. You get what you want, not what they want you to have.

Little kids? Yeah, Resident Evil.. there's a "kiddy" title if I ever saw one.

Cheap, yes.

Crap? Obviously you've never played one.. a Gamecube can hold it's own next to both PS2 and Xbox just fine. And comes out on top in some cases. Even on paper, it's more powerful than PS2, and if you've actually played any games on it, you'd know this.

If you're referring to the Revolution, then just stop right there, because you don't know anything about it. No one does. And there's no price announced for it, either.

I agree. Nintendo's own games especially usually have a very high 'playability' factor. They are exceedingly well thought out, and usually more than a little addictive. Think of Zelda and more especially Mario. These games are giants within the gaming world. Other games come and go, but Nintendo's own games remain the most recognisable of all.

I don't think the Gamecube (which I own) has quite the level of graphics that the Xbox has, but then, I'd much rather have a game with poorer graphics and fabulous playability than the other way around.

Regards

gamecube does has decent graphics, but in egm they released the revolutions price, 250 us i beleive, might be 250 cad..

Um.. WHAT-EVER.... If they can fit a PS2 into a little thing you can slip into your pocket, they can sure as hell put a console into a little box like the Revolution, or whatever they're going to call it.

Their "target audience" doesn't mean a damn thing in the long run. Ironically, the only ones who don't seem to like the "kiddy" games are the kids. If their games were really "beneath" me, then why would I buy Nintendo after Nintendo, generation after generation? And I'm almost thirty.

And no, EGM did not "reveal" the price, for the simple reason that Nintendo has not yet announced it (if they did, tell me the issue and the page number). Chances are it will launch at $199US, probably less.

No one has put a PS2 into a pocket model- the PSP is essentially a downsized PSOne, not a PS2.

LOL.. Whatever. Have you seen the PSP? Even the best PS1 games are utterly asstastic compared to what PSP can do. The DS, yeah.. that's about on-par with the PS1/N64. PSP is far beyond it, though.

The point is, to say that the Revolution will be "crap" just because it's small is incredibly, undeniably, stupid.

Wasn't the Xbox360 suppost to support HD*DVD when it came out? was that feature dropped and no one told me? If so I think I'll wait for the PS3 and Nintendo to launch so i can tell who has better games.

It will be crap because it is'nt even keeping pace with the current technology demands, much less setting new standards. No HD support, yeah ok, Nintendo just signed their own death warrant.
Microsoft, all games 720p or higher. Pretty big step.

Sony BRDVD and core processor, can put out full 1080p resolution. Wow.

Yea Nintendo, not even trying anymore.

According to Playstation land rumor the PS3 will do SACD via digitasl out. Nice additional touch.

SACD + BRDVD + Controller I already know where the buttons are, + works with PS & PS2 games.... Sold!

Xbox360 & Nintendo ...... Don't even care anymore.

Yea I'm really sold on the ps3 too, but I just can't do without my Halo!

I will end up getting the 360 (already pre-ordered) and the ps3 because I have been playing video games since odyssey 3000 and cant help but pour fire on my addiction.

Well, I didn't really like HALO, and as far as anyone can tell me it was the only XBox-specific game worth buying an Xbox for. Nintendo certainly had alot of GameCube games I liked (as did every Nintendo system before it save the 64), but at the time I never had enough dispossable cash to own mor ethan 1 system, and Playstation2 played all my PS1 games.

This time around I'll be able to afford more than one console (and an HDTV to play them on). The primary reason is that now I can rent games for any system, when I couldn't 3 or 4 years ago (Netflix, didn't do games, GameFly hadn't been invented, and Blockbuster didn't mail-order). Now that I don't need to pay $50 - $60 per game, and can pay 1 monthly fee for all three systems, I can afford more hardware.

Now, If the games for the nextgen are anything like the current systems, I'll want a PS3 primarily, then I'll want a Nintendo for its games (and Nintendo makes some darned fine games), and unless XBox gets more titles that intrest me I won't even buy one. I would have bought one when it was supposed to play HD-DVDs, but it doesn't do that now. And Samsung said they have a universal player ready to sell anyway.

So likelyhood of games I want to play

PS3: Almost certain (Killzone 3 especially)
Nintendo: Very good. has a long history of good games, but had a few flubs
Xbox360: No games I really like yet..... maybe later

PS: So yeah, I knida changed my mind since yesterday. So sue me :p

I will probably go for the Xbox 360. My only concern will be backwards compatability with Xbox games. There is still some question on that issue out there.

The Xbox 360 will offer a lower level of a new "Xbox Live" service that is free and comes with the console. The lower level will not allow on-line gaming but will allow the other stuff. You can upgrade from the free Silver level to the Gold level which gives you all of the services for about $50.

No matter how I look at it, it will cost big bucks to set a new system up.
  • HDTV hookup adapter
  • additional controller
  • larger harddrive
  • wireless ethernet adapter

Well, I guess that's my Christmas list! :D
