The list of music looks almost complete accounting for most genres. BUT if we really want to see want these monsters of the deep can do, well then why not step up to Techmaster PEB or Bass extreme (old school car woofer tests). Although they are pretty much just abrupt sinewaves set to phat beats. Craig if you want to throw these into the mix I have some Techmaster mp3s that I could email you.

If you feel like it, for round 2 of movies, hook up the ice field scene from Titan AE. In my book it's #2 after wotw underground pod scene. Did anyone else think we just needed a big hammer and play a little whack a mole with the pods and everything would have been all good.:D

JR
JR - I will take the phat beats under advisement ... :D

Titan AE is a great idea -I have not heard the ice scenes in a long time, plus it is a pretty good movie.

Though I'm aware of the possible placement/response-at-the-LP issues, I'm putting my money on the idea that the HSU does 50-and-above Hz better than the Ultra, which has shown this weakness in GP graphs, IMO.

Just one reason to be tuned in here...great stuff either way.

blind listening

craig:

does anyone make a high quality speaker selector switch that is remotely controlled? as I am slowing acquiring HT speakers / subs, i have had the opportunity to direct A/B speakers in my house. it would help greatly to be able to switch on the fly from speaker A to speaker B without stopping the cd, getting up, and switching the speaker outputs. (plus this isn't blind)

thx for all your great test results and valuable info.

chasw98 over at AVS (has he shown up here yet?) also made his own remote control speaker switcher from some old X10 parts. He offered me the design specs. If the one Craig linked to is too expensive and you are a DIYer, you might want to contact him.

Hey Sutter, is your system change a bad case of upgraditis or performance not living up to expectations? Based on Axiom reviews at AH, especially the EP500 sub, it seams hard to believe performance is the issue, especially with two. Just curious.
Audiosouse,

In this case, no. Not a case of upgraditis. Although that has been the cause for my upgrades in the past. lol

I had a 7.2 system consisting of the Axiom M80's, VP150, 2 pairs of QS8's, and 2 EP500's. I watched and listened to a lot of movies and cd's over the course of the past 4 months or so. After many, many hours of carefully listening and evaluating, I finally came to the conclusion that Axioms just were not for me. They are indeed great speakers, and I would recommend them to anybody depending on their tastes, but for me they were just a little too bright for my tastes. I like a little warmer laid back sound. I also had issues with things that some would consider to be irrelevant or trivial at best, such as cosmetics. I hated the fact that they use vinyl veneers.

As for the subs, well the EP500's are excellent subs. I just found them lacking a little on the music side of the house. For home theater they really shined. However, when comparing the EP500's to the HSU VTF3 MKII I had, I found the VTF3 to be clearer and cleaner then the EP500, at least to me anyways. I can only speak for myself of course.

Oops !!!

As it turns out, the Carpet Grabber is included in the Turbo-box. It is pre-cut, and works perfectly. Something tells me the manual for the Turbo tells you this, too. Of course, being an experienced subwoofer guy, I looked at the Turbo and thought "How could there POSSIBLY be a need for a manual for THIS" ??

Now, where DID I put that Turbo manual ? :D

I got some too, although not as "nicely" done as Chas.....but it does the job, and quite well might I add. Shoot me a PM if you want the details:)

Yo dude, you've been sleeping!:p I've been lurking. See my post a couple a pages back. It is very easy to take a basic X10 component (cheap, if you have to buy) and a relay to make a remote AB switch. I had about 12 AVS guys for a listen with about 20 different speakers and it worked well. Anybody in the room could switch at will, plus it is RF based so need for line of sight. PM me for specifics.

Chuck - Excellent stuff ! Having the ability to switch between speakers is a real asset for the hobbyist, and the fact that you are willing to help guys get a switcher built for "cheap" is VERY cool. :)

you taking the time to test and listen, then post is what its all about. Besides its fun to build little widgets that do things. I even modded my original to include level matching for really getting serious about it and its still cheap!

I now feel better about mentioning the stuff (carpet grabber) that came with my turbos earlier in the thread...It's a guy thing...only the proliferation of in-car GPS systems has saved me the humiliation of having to use maps or ask directions, but I do generally make sure I review what's in the box and manual when new toys show up...

There are lots of hits on this thread and comments/questions remain civil. Everyone lurking out there pat yourself on the back and another thumbs up for you, Craig. Fun stuff, even if you didn't fully check the contents of the box...

Helpful Hint of the day for TrueRTA

Q: How do I overlay several measurements on top of each other visually?
Just save them to separate memories and display those memories. Use Alt+1 to save to memory 1 and so on. See the Memory commands under the View menu. Note the Memory Toolbar is used to display or hide each memory.

Of course, I'm still available if needed.:)

Can you do all that on your old computer Jeff?.. or did you break down and pick up a new one?:)

Thats probably another thread. But, these days, I don't like either forum much, but check them both. I guess I'm back to my old "I'm anti everything".

I know what you mean Sherv. Although we're both DIY'rs for now, you never know what's around the corner screaming "buy me". I give myself a year before I buy yet another sub.:p

Well not exactly new, but FREE. Picked up an old Dell XP workstation that was "unfixable" heh-heh :D . Also free 21" trinitron monitor and snatched up an ethernet hub as well. Dumped the DSL and switched to cable modem. I don't think TrueRTA would even install on my old machine!
