What is the true story with 8k support on the RX-A6A? The spec sheet says HDMI upscaling to 8k will be supported "via firmware update" and HDMI pass-through of 4K120AB, 8K60AB, 4K60 and 40GBPS will be supported "via future update." Yamaha support just told me that
"There is no ETA when we expect this to release... It is most likely going to need a board exchange, but details have not be released... The cap is 24gbps and yes it will most likely will require a board exchange."
A board exchange? Presumably, to be performed by an authorized service center, which will require re-packaging and shipping the receiver? Hmmm...
How does this AVR compare to Denon AVR-X4700H which is said to support 8k today?

The Yamaha RX-A4A, A6A, and A8A, will Not need a board replacement. Those will get a firmware update, last reported was by the end of this month. Only the models below the RX-A4A will need a board replacement.

Thank you for this info! It is a relief, as I was leaning toward the RX-A6A over Denon anyway. I bought my current Yamaha RX-V2095 back in 1998, and it still works perfectly fine. That type of quality certainly induces brand loyalty.

And when you register your warranty, you get the 5YR Yamaha Warranty, which I think is the AVR industry best.

Just a note, that Denon 4700H, is 8K ready out the box. It has IMAX, and Auro 3D, and Adyssey XT32 which by the way many on AH really like what the 4700H brings to their HT enjoyment. It's nice AVR for sure.

So now that you all have had your Yamaha Aventage RX-A8A or A6A for a while, what do you seriously think of it? Forget about the 2.1 update for now and base your experience on the overall performance and sound of the Musicality and Movie viewing performance etc.

I absolutely love my RX-A4A. Haven't had one issue since day one out the box. Outside not being able to use the HDMI 2.1 which by the way as of right now I have no 2.1 source. Just yesterday I watched GOT season 8 on 4K Blu-ray again. Absolutely love what my RX-A4A beings to my HT enjoyment, for music also. I do the 2.1 stereo thing whether it's spinning vinyl, or a CD or streaming. Now the RX-A4A doesn't have Auro 3D, which the A6A and A8A has. I've read post on this thread the guys that have Auro 3D love that setting for music.

Mike, we always want more, don’t we? Now that you’ve had the RX-A1080 and RX-A4A, you want the RX-A6A. :D

But consider that without the HDMI 2.1 update you would basically be buying 2019 tech in 2022. :p

They are solid machines, otherwise. *shrugs

The key part of that is that if you aren’t a gamer for the next 3-5 yrs, it likely doesn’t matter that 2.1 doesn’t work. *shrugs again

I am just surprised and disappointed that a company like Yamaha is still standing with their pants around their ankles for what?… 9 mos now? I say this because I wanted to consider their next processor. Oh well.

What are you talking about? I thought, if it sounds great, it’s great. Why look for more? Lol
Why? Do you think if it sounds great, it's terrible unless it shows a flat line on paper?:D

I am not looking for more in sound quality. It's already super awesome. I was speaking generically- like how the grass is always greener on the other side.

What I am waiting for is a 10K-lumen Epson 4K Laser PJ at 28dB noise level since 6K-lumen is not enough. :D

Who brought that up??

I'm in agreement with @ryanosaur. The new is likely going to perform just like the old with no differences in sound quality. They just can't get their 2.1 straightened out, and likely won't until the next cycle.

Unless they mess that up too...

Yeah all new models will sound like the old. The difference will be the features like Auro3D and HDMI 2.1 or any other features.

According to the spec sheet, HDMI 2.1 / HDCP 2.3 is supposed to be already supported in RX-A8A/A6A/A4A without any updates:
So is it not supported, or perhaps on outputs only? Or, is @Replicant 7 writing about some other "2.1" (not HDMI)?
Just placed my order for the A6A, so...

There are features within the HDMI 2.1 arena that are not currently supported and require a “future firmware update.”

Just did a look on Yamaha site, seems still will need firmware update for 2.1 on RX-A4A, A6A, A8A. I do get Dolby Vision though.

There are many added things to the new Aventage line. PEQ, YPAO: Low Frequency, Higher Slew rate, 2.1 inputs, new 40g Qualcomm chip. From just a quick look could be more. Umm got fans on the inside now.
