Yamaha AVENTAGE 2021 AV Receivers Bulk Up on Power and 8K Features

Yamaha could add a "pre-amp mode" and that would be a useful feature to have for those who won't use the internal amplifiers. Even better if this could be user selectable on each pair of pre-outs for those that will use only a few of the internal amplifiers.

But why improve their products when the manufacturers can jack up the prices instead of taking advantage of the improvements in technology? Reminds me of dinosaurs when the Yamaha receiver have four composite and two component video inputs.

I don’t care about the preamp mode as long as Yamaha continues to sound awesome, operates at a cooler temperature and remains reliable, compatible and consistent.

Squeezing out the best SINAD is for audiophiles to worry about. It doesn’t prove anything about improvements in technology, other than SINAD numbers.

This reminds of how Honda tried to “improve” cabin noise by resorting to “noise-cancellation speakers, while Toyota just used better insulation.

Or how Honda tried to improve fuel economy by resorting to shut down engine cylinders (like from 6 cylinders down to 4 cylinders) at cruising speed.

And here’s a thought, if people want to “shut off the internal amps”, just do what I do - buy a pre-pro, just don‘t buy anything like the AVP-A1HDCI.

I’ve a six year old Denon AVR-X4200W powering my four Ohm speakers in a 5.2 HT. Yes, it still works despite daily use and not being a Yamaha. I do have fans on top of it, for several years, but not in the beginning.

At some time the receiver will have to be replaced, so preamp performance as such is of interest to me at that time.

I also think that manufactures should improve over time.

So all this best possible performance means you actually get BETTER SOUND QUALITY if the THD+N is 0.0007%, instead of 0.008%?

ASR "audiophiles" can hear down to 0.0001% in ABX tests, you didn't know??!! That 0.0001% can be a make or break when it comes to huge soundstages. Come nightime, their Christmas lights say "0.0001", their ears turn golden and they fly around like Batmen.

You recently bought an expensive Yamaha receiver, and that you are defensive is quite human. Similar goes for the angsty dealer that I’m sure has gotten many questions from potential customers about Yamaha, considering the damage control he is engaged in currently.

When I buy a new receiver, the pre-pros are “only” receivers without amps to at least twice the price and questionable performance, I’ll look what is available for my needs and wants at that time.

Measurements of devices will be important, but also things like features, build quality, reliability and support.

So sites like Audioholics and ASR with their measurements helps me making a more informed purchase decision.

They're all more similar than different. Sometimes in silver they can look different, but those often aren't offered in the US. Don't really care myself, I don't place them to be gazed upon or fondled....

Actually he sells more Denon, Marantz than Yamaha.

At least my Denon receiver has a metal door covering the controls in contrast to the 3000 series. The Marantz may look better but the porthole display is useless, and their HDMA circuitry is worse than useless according to measurements.
