Yamaha AVENTAGE 2021 AV Receivers Bulk Up on Power and 8K Features

Yamaha could add a "pre-amp mode" and that would be a useful feature to have for those who won't use the internal amplifiers. Even better if this could be user selectable on each pair of pre-outs for those that will use only a few of the internal amplifiers.

But why improve their products when the manufacturers can jack up the prices instead of taking advantage of the improvements in technology? Reminds me of dinosaurs when the Yamaha receiver have four composite and two component video inputs.
I don’t care about the preamp mode as long as Yamaha continues to sound awesome, operates at a cooler temperature and remains reliable, compatible and consistent.

Squeezing out the best SINAD is for audiophiles to worry about. It doesn’t prove anything about improvements in technology, other than SINAD numbers.

This reminds of how Honda tried to “improve” cabin noise by resorting to “noise-cancellation speakers, while Toyota just used better insulation. :D

Or how Honda tried to improve fuel economy by resorting to shut down engine cylinders (like from 6 cylinders down to 4 cylinders) at cruising speed. :D

And here’s a thought, if people want to “shut off the internal amps”, just do what I do - buy a pre-pro, just don‘t buy anything like the AVP-A1HDCI. :D

My thoughts exactly....Thank You!!!!

You don’t care about a pre-amp mode but others do to get the best possible performance when using the pre-outs, and not have significantly reduced performance by internal amps that are not used.

As for only so-called audiophiles caring about it here is a counterpoint by @gene:

>>>Preamp Mode - fully disconnects amps from preamp path per Audioholics suggestion to reduce distortion<<<

I’ve a six year old Denon AVR-X4200W powering my four Ohm speakers in a 5.2 HT. Yes, it still works despite daily use and not being a Yamaha. ;) I do have fans on top of it, for several years, but not in the beginning.

At some time the receiver will have to be replaced, so preamp performance as such is of interest to me at that time.

I also think that manufactures should improve over time.

Oh I thought maybe you had some real world input you could add based on using one of these...my bad. Another curious question. What was the last Yamaha model you owned?

So all this best possible performance means you actually get BETTER SOUND QUALITY if the THD+N is 0.0007%, instead of 0.008%?

You are aware that these posts are about the measurements of the Yamaha RX-A3080 that was posted yesterday on ASR? As such I don’t need to own or have ever owned a Yamaha receiver to comment.

The link to that review has been posted twice this thread, but three is a charm, as the saying goes.

ASR "audiophiles" can hear down to 0.0001% in ABX tests, you didn't know??!! That 0.0001% can be a make or break when it comes to huge soundstages. Come nightime, their Christmas lights say "0.0001", their ears turn golden and they fly around like Batmen.

I'm sure the new ones are way worse...probably better off with a Denon. ;)

Speaking of better AVR's, where's Onkyo been hiding? Where's their Z50?

Yeah man, just buy Denon. If it wasn't for Denon's outdated 90's look I'd probably have one. :D
Yeah Yamahas look so good in comparison, lol. They're all not lookers, but there's no need for a box of electronics to be good looking either....

You recently bought an expensive Yamaha receiver, and that you are defensive is quite human. Similar goes for the angsty dealer that I’m sure has gotten many questions from potential customers about Yamaha, considering the damage control he is engaged in currently.

When I buy a new receiver, the pre-pros are “only” receivers without amps to at least twice the price and questionable performance, I’ll look what is available for my needs and wants at that time.

Measurements of devices will be important, but also things like features, build quality, reliability and support.

So sites like Audioholics and ASR with their measurements helps me making a more informed purchase decision.

I do like the look of the Onkyo's Z50.
They're all more similar than different. Sometimes in silver they can look different, but those often aren't offered in the US. Don't really care myself, I don't place them to be gazed upon or fondled....

Actually he sells more Denon, Marantz than Yamaha.

At least my Denon receiver has a metal door covering the controls in contrast to the 3000 series. The Marantz may look better but the porthole display is useless, and their HDMA circuitry is worse than useless according to measurements.
