When you are talking about upmix, what is it and how to enable it? When I listen to music, my "Music scene" is in Straight mode so stereo is stereo and Atmos is Atmos (I listen to a Clapton recent album until the end, found it really well mixe, then realized it was actually Atmos all the time, so my "music should be stereo" mindset is slowly evolving to a more open mindset). Is there a way to have a stereo input and to get something upmixed to Atmos ? By selecting a specific DSP program ?
Yes. DSU(dolby surround) or DTSnx(DTS neuralX)will. DSU is better for music imo.

Ok but how to select these mode on the RX-AXA ? I don't see any button or menu to select those.
I don’t know which buttons are on your particular remote. But mine has preset buttons that are “movie”, “music”, “game” and “pure. If i push the music button for example, it brings up all the appropriate sound modes. Like direct, pure direct, DSU DTSnx, etc. then select the one I want. I’ll look for your remote.

Use your (sur-Decode) on your remote for 2.1 music. Just scroll through till you get 2 channel stereo. Once there, you can jump in Options, You can play with Tone Control's, YPAO settings, Enhancer on or off, Extra Bass no or off, Volume Trim if you like.

I tried the Straight vs DSurround vs DTS X Neural, the Straight Stereo sound twice as wide as the surround upmixer Yes I am loosing sound coming from surrounds, but I still prefer the wide detailed stereo to the artificial surround upmix.

Have you tried just 2.1 or 2.2 since you have two Subs. I like just 2.1 for music. I gotta small living room and sit about 10ft from mains. I seeing younger fellows like those sound fields for music use. Guess I'm old school with my boring 2.1 stereo only for music only use.

Even in stereo my setup is 2.2. I now know (thank you to all the people that took the time to write half a billion post to teach me) that if I am setting my front speakers as small, then for frequencies under the selected crossover, subs will be used. So I have six amps driving my stereo :) One for medium high, on for lows, and the sub amp... This setup makes me feel like I am an audiophile :D :p

How about this, try your L/R mains set to full, also use it set, 2.2, play around with Tone Control's some dial in your two Subs at just below your L/R main bass Output. That's what I do for 2.1 music only use.

Watching Arcane (for the second time). Trying DTS X Neural (up mixing 5.1). It’s very different from the Dolby up mixer. It clearly uses the front height speakers while Dolby doesn’t.

I take any advice;)
Cool to have learned that multiple press on Surround Decoder loops between mode

Yeah, DTS-X is my favorite for 4k movie use

For 5.1 I prefer AI decoder to DTS Neural X to Dolby Surround. For Atmos I feel It performs better with Surround Decoder than with AI Decoder.

Does the Dolby Surround Decoder even do anything vs Straight when the source is Atmos? Same question applies to native DTS X mixes.
