thanks for the info WnDrBr3d, vice city was a top selling game, so I should be able to play it before I get live.

I would get a HDTV before the new sound system, but... HDTV's have a larger price tag, so I'd have to save up some more, and I think I just bought vice city by accident over future shop..
HDTV doesnt have to have a higher price tag, just saw a 30" Philips widescreen crt on www.ubid.com today for $200 bucks, thought about picking it up to use for something, dont know what, but I could figure something out. You just have to look for a good price.

Current speculation says that the hard drive is required for backwards compatibility, in order to store the emulation software. Which means you'll be forced to pay for the $400 version of the system, one way or the other.

thats just a speculation, that the hard drive is seperate. It has to come with one, well it doesn't have to but it most likely will, when MICROSOFT says that and posts it up on their official site, I'll believe it. Now, bogus.

i'll buy the 400 just to get all the extras anyways so it wont matter too much, I have a feeling a lot of ppl wll do the same, they just have the $300 dollar one for ppl that dont want to shell out that much right away, but theyll end up paying 500 by the time they get everything they need to really enjoy it

from the pricing release everyone has xbox live that has an xbox, but you have to upgrade that to play games online

You need to read the news, then. The official announcement was made this morning. The standard Xbox360, retailing for $299, does not include the hard drive. The "Premium" version, at $399, does.

I still don't understand this obsession with a hard drive. Just because Xbox had one (which wasn't really used for much), everybody simply assumes that it's a "requirement", and that any system that doesn't include one from that point on is "teh suck". Obviously it's not near as important as everyone thinks it is, or else MS wouldn't have dropped it. Now it's nothing more than a hundred-dollar add-on, that will be used even less than the Xbox's drive was, because not everyone will have it.

As for the subscription, it's just the "Silver" membership, which is free anyway. The "Gold" membership, which is required to actually play games online, will cost you, just like it's always cost you.

I have to disagree on the hard drive wasn't really used for much. First off, you could have thousands of game saves on that hard drive, how many of those annoying ps2 memory cards would that have taken. Second, I ripped all kinds of cd's to my xbox so I could have custom sound tracks in my games that offered it, that was a really cool option. Third, it allowed you to download content from xbox live like new levels, demo games, all kinds of stuff. Ppl do you use it, some just dont really take full advantage of it

The XBox360 will still have 512MB or 256MB On-Board Flash Memory (CF type built in).

So the hard drive isnt a MUST to save games, nor are additional memory cards. The Hard drive would be used more for saving downloaded Emulator Profiles and other content.
