Why not? This is my point, the Mel Gibson movie, before it was released , almost nobody endorsed it. Now you've got a movie about 2 homos and Hollywood, the critics and the movie theaters love every minute of it.

A lot of the same people that ask me to tolerate gays, nambla the aclu etc. can't tolerate a Manger scene at the local library.

I'm not insinuating that is the persons view I quoted, thats why I asked the question.

I really don't think it's gonna bomb- last I saw it's really raking in the money, and it's doing a lot better than King Kong, relative to the amount of theaters for each. And it can't be all gays going to see it, either; not with that kind of ticket sales.

Perhaps males don't generally gravitate to "love stories", but there's a difference between those types of films and "chickflix." Even Casablanca is essentially just a love story and it's #2 on AFI's list of the best American films ever made.

For the realllly homophobic, I doubt they're gonna show their shlongs. And don't get me wrong- I don't wanna see that, either. Normally I would be more eager to see a lesbian cowgirl movie, and I probably have seen a few! I'm just intrigued based upon the strength of a lot of positive reviews and word of mouth (gotta watch that last phrase! ). There's already talk of an Oscar for Heath Ledger...

I used to be more of a sci-fi or action-movie type of guy, but nowadays I'm just into good movies, whatever the genre. As Roger Ebert points out, the subject of a film is irrelevant to the quality of a film- you can make a frightfully bad and boring film about something interesting (as evidenced by the recent stinker, "War of the Worlds"- what a waste of film stock) or a fascinating or funny movie about something really boring (eg "Best in Show").

And the end of the day, I just wanna see a good movie!

I don't get homo bashing. I am not gay (not that there's anything wrong with that ). I do not enjoy seeing men make out but if I do see it I don't get violent. I have been hit on by men a few times in my short life and all I do is explain "I'm not gay but thanks anyway..." The same way I handle a female I'm not interested in. The thought of beating them to death with a cattle prod and dragging their remains behind the ol' F-250 into town for the boys to see never crossed my mind.

Maybe some of the previous posters are unsure of their own sexuality. Thinking if a they get the opportunity for a little man love they might jump at it. Maybe they are just puking their parents thoughts and really haven't given it much thought.

If I was in a room with 1000 'sausages' touching one is the last thing on my mind. Men are yucky looking I don't see why women like them. Soft squishy women are the only thing that make my pants tight.

There is enough stuff in this world to get upset about without bashing gays. In my limited experience happiness is hard enough to find. If two men (or women) find happiness who am I to deny them? Who cares what two adults do in private?

The Reason I said homophobic is simple. You simply came out of no where and had this pure hatred for the movie and wanted it to fail.

It must be a lowest common denominator type thing that movies like that are box office hits. It's a sad list in my opinion. The conclusion I'll draw from that list is a little different. I'll say the average movie goer does not want to see anything that makes them think or see themselves or the world in a different light.

It's a free country. You're free to watch gay cowboy movies, free to make gay cowboy movies, free not to do either of the above.

You're free to explore your own sexuality. You're free to deny your sexuality. You're free to disagree with how others make movies, watch movies, and live their lives.

To denounce others who explore legal, valid ways of thinking and living is to discredit them the freedoms our country allows.

The beauty is, nobody has to live anyone else's life. Their movies will not imprint themselves in an unwilling mind. Their lifestyle decisions will not forceably enter outside lives. We are all free to follow our own passions and avoid uncomfortable elements.

Many other places in the world have strict cultural and legal boundaries that wouldn't allow such liberties. Also, latitudes even "mainstreamers" enjoy would be restricted. See, the hardliners draw their boundaries where THEY want, not where we would set them.

An unfortunate offshoot of liberty is that others might choose different paths than we do. Those decisions might be uncomfortable. But, consider the alternatives:

1) Your freedom suffers to limit the overt choices of your fellow citizens; or

2) You must suffer the choices of others in their lives to ensure your own freedoms.
