How about we start a Politics forum?

I was thinking about automatic red chicklets for anybody who starts a thread there.

How about we start a new section called "Politics and Religion".
Then anybody who clicks on that forum automatically receives a 1 day ban.

I know that you're joking, Dave, but I'll say this. Annoying or not, stuff in the Steam Vent (including the political threads) probably keeps this forum alive. After all, all the great "tech support" that hangs out here needs something to do in between all of the "why won't my [fill in the blank] work?" and "what [fill in the blank] should I buy" threads.

"Auto-Ban" made me think of Autobahn, which made me think that you could have a short-term auto ban feature for people that post too fast. Oh, wait - I'd get banned.

One request I could make, don't let Alex become a moderator in that forum. The mods should at least know what all the big words mean before banning somebody.

Really ?!? I like the subjectivism on the site and generally add members to my ignore list as soon as they start with the wire bologna ... unless they give me free stuff. In that case I like to abuse my rep giving abilities to send 'em straight to the top.

I gotta quit messing around here and go do something productive ... providing that you have been sufficiently amused but of course left wanting in the edumacation department.

I am like Adam and others, I surf "New Posts" and if it is interesting and I can contribute, I do. I don't partcipate that much in politics ( or religion), from years and years of experience, I have learned that various people have adamant, passioned opinions and they defend them to the death of your friendship with them. I know I have friends on Audioholics that have diametrically opposed views on politics. I prefer to deal mainly with electronics, audio and video issues. Sometimes I can even get agreement

Therefore, the steam vent could post "political" threads and those of political persuasion could partipate. Participation in any thread is not mandatory. If you don't like a thread don't participate.

And I agree with Adam, have a Steam Vent keeps the forum alive as just pure technology can not.

I've never ended a friendship over disagreement. I use to say there is more than one way to skin a cat, but that phrase is not PC anymore. So I say there is more than one way to climb a mountain, but eventually you'll get on my way when you hit the summit.

I find some people take me too seriously. I'm not a serious person usually.

I'm not trying to discourage political discussion. It's just that when you come to the steam vent and see at times almost 50% of threads on page 1 have a political bent, it becomes tedious.

I just think it would be a good idea to have a "politics only" forum to move these discussions to. I might even pop in there every now and then. I just don't want to see it every day.

Not at all. It's just that the constant ravings of people that have an obvious axe to grind gets boring real quick.

Thats a good idea... at least a drunk poster thread. I'm tired of the boring thread being polluted all the time. Its getting out of hand.

On a side note, I remember you drinking some kind of regional beer that started with "A" or something a while back... do you remember that? I wanted to try it. They had few varieties.
