Do you currently own or have a need for powered speakers? If yes, where?
YES, in my "study".
In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?
Absolutely!

If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?
A BIG maybe but leaning toward probably not. I might consider it.

If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)
Nope.
When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?
VERY important! How many tv's don't have a remote now!

1. I don't have any now, but could use some for the kitchen.
2. Of course, why not?
3. If the wireless connection is good, I might add surrounds back to my system. Quality depends on the connection.
4. I have headphones now, I hate the poor soundstage, but I am almost done with my DIY build - the new complaint will be size. 3 amps and 2 large speakers at my desk :).
5. Doesn't matter.

1. I currently do not have powere speakers. I have several places I'd like to put a pair
2. Most passive speakers I've heard with a well-made amp out preform most powered speakers I've heard.
3. I don't think they will match passive speakers sound. If it was proven otherwise, I'd do it tomorrow.
4. Don't care for the size and lack of flexibility of a desktop system.
5. One of the top three most important features.

Pick me! Pick me! Oh Oh Pick Me!

1. Do you currently own or have a need for powered speakers? If yes, where?
--Yes, on three different desk tops in the house.

2. In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?
--Yes, by setting them at the proper crossover and pairing them with a sub.

3. If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?
--They would have to match the sound quality. Wireless would be great for rear surrounds if the signal was strong and constant while playing.

4. If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)
--I have a large desk so size is no concern, however, sound and quality would be a big plus considering I'm running cheap Altec Lansings right now.

5. When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?
--Heaven:D

1. Do you currently own or have a need for powered speakers? If yes, where?
I do not currently own powered speakers.

2. In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?
Yes.

3. If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?
This is something I'm currently considering. I am worried that they might not match the sound quality of my passive speakers, but am considering the tradeoffs.

4. If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality) My computer is connected to my home audio.

5. When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?
It's pretty big for me. I am a fan of convenience! ;)

1. No, but someday would consider them for home theater.

2. Yes.

3. Yes - if the sound was as good.

4. Yes - like the size, and the price I paid. I'm not listening criticallly, but the system sounds pretty good to me.

5. That ability is very nice feature.

Do not own any powered speakers. These would be great for a small DIY recording studio setup I've been putting together

In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?
In some cases, based on ones I have heard, I believe they can sound better in the right circumstances.

If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?
Will likely shy away from the wireless surround speaker option. I prefer everything to be direct-wired.

If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)
I'm currently using an Altec Lansing PC stereo set with a small subwoofer. It produces a very good sound for its size, and for my needs suits me perfectly.

When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system? Very important. I look for products that will allow that remote control, either iPod compatible, or network compatible so I can stream it from my network and control it with the system remote control. Most of my music has been converted to PC at this point - though I have racks full of CD's, I rarely actually play them anymore.

1. I own a broken Klipsch Promedia 2.1 – the speakers stopped… speaking. I used them for music and multimedia on my PC. I have a more complicated home theater system.

2. Of course they can! Especially when paired with a good amp and receiver! Though I haven’t yet heard pair with detail surpassing my headphones.

3. I would not add wireless speakers to my home theater room. In my experience, sound quality is substantially more reliable with wired systems.

4. Apart from it being broken, I like the amp/headphone output. I use the built-in amp to power my headphones. It also has an auxiliary input that I have never used.

5. I would prefer no remote access – I like my toys to be very minimalist, e.g. no unnecessary extras. I feel that extra features are often poorly manufactured or implemented and add cost unnecessarily to systems which could otherwise be more available with regard to pricing.

1. Do you currently own or have a need for powered speakers? If yes, where?
- Yes, currently own a small setup for the computer. 2.1 setup.

2. In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?
- If properly designed, yes. But the deisgn will be the critical element to ensure the sound quality is there.

3. If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?
- Would only consider doing if the matched the sound quality of the passive speakers already used in the system. I would consider it because my current home setup does not make it easy to run cables necessary for a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker setup. Had that in the last house, not in this house and I miss it. So yes, I could consider it if the sound quality was very good.

4. If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)
- I have a Altec Lansing 2.1 speaker system for my computer. Small, about 8 or 9 years old but still better than anything that comes stock with a computer these days. Excellent bass from the subwoofer and pretty good midrange considering the small size of the speakers. Good tone quality too. Dislike - the cables for the main power are thick and like to turn the small speaker due to the weight of the cable.

5. When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?
- It is nice, but I can change the source with the receiver remote. Changing songs is another matter when using a digital source or playing a CD since my muli-disk changer died. It is a pain to change, but not that bad since I can run a specific list of music when playing from a digital source.

1. Do you currently own or have a need for powered speakers? If yes, where?
If you count old computer speakers, than yes, if not, then no :D

2. In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?
I would think this really depends on the price point. if you already have an amp I think passive is much better for the money, but if you don't, then powered all the way. I would argue that passive speakers can sound better just because they cover a lot more price ranges, but I think powered are great for computer speakers.

3. If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?
No, because if it's wireless that means I need to either run a power cord to them (thus not wireless and just as annoying) or they will use batteries, which is more annoying and probably wouldn't have enough power. Until we have wireless power, I would only consider a wireless sub since I am going to have to plug it into a wall either way.

4. If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)
I have a desktop computer speaker system, but it is a h/k receiver hooked up to monitor audio speakers, not exactly normal computer audio. The size is annoying (have to deal with desk space for receiver) but the sound quality is worth it. but in all honesty, last year for an entrepreneurship class for college, I had to come up with a business plan, and I did it for better and more stylish computer speakers. I think looks is the number one area where computer speakers suck, they are all so ugly and bland. normally quality suffers pretty bad too. I think this is an area that needs huge improvement. I think there is a huge market for college kids who have laptops that are looking for better speakers as well.

5. When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?
Very important. Since I do almost all my listening through my computer (which is hooked up to two systems) I made sure to get multimedia keyboards as well as routed media controls to my mouse.

1. Do you currently own or have a need for powered speakers? If yes, where?
I do own a small set of powered speakers and use them in my office. I have a 2.1 setup with a Mac Mini for music, so these would be a welcome step up.

2. In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?
Possibly. It depends what passive speakers and powered speakers are used in the comparison.

3. If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?
The powered speakers may not fully match the quality of my home theater speakers, but I could think of two ways to utilize them. First, as a set of Dolby Pro Logic IIz speakers. And second, as an additional set of speakers in an adjoining room. In both applications, the wireless functionality of the speakers would make installation easier.

4. If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)
Small size is the best feature of the system I currently use. The sound is compromised, so netter quality would be a welcome change.

5. When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?
Changing songs or sources without walking to the system is only moderately important to me. I generally listen to full albums or playlists. I am always in the room where the music is being sourced and the source never changes unless I change my activity to watching a movie, TV, etc.

Currently I don't have powered speakers, though I am considering replacing the headphones used for my computer with a set.

In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?
Of course they can sound as good, they can also sound better or worse depending on the quality on components used and the application.

If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?
Currently I think that wired speakers will sound better and perform without interuption issues possible with wireless. I'm very interested in wireless speakers and hope to aquire some once the performance is equal all around to wired speakers.

If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)
None currently.

When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?
Remote control is fairly high on my list and is a must have feature. Still, I usually manually switch sources when first powering my system up.

Quality is vital - size is irrelevant

5. When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?

Not very important - I'm always by the source

Computer room.

In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?

Yes. Depends on the implementation.

If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?

Maybe. I would have to see it to believe it.

If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)

Sound. I have a very old Altec Lansing system.

1. Do you currently own or have a need for powered speakers? If yes, where?

I don't own any, but I would definitely use them in a second room.

2. In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?
Sure- if set up properly with the right system.

3. If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?
I'm not a fan of wireless speakers- I prefer the wired approach.

4. If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)
Don't have a desktop system right now.

5. When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?
Somewhat important.

Contest Questions:
1.Do you currently own or have a need for powered speakers? If yes, where?

I have never used powered speaker other than sub, I would need to hear them side-by-side with my current speakers.

2.In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?

I would have to hear the powered speaker in my setting and do a comparison with my current speakers.

3.If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?

I am very interested in quality wireless speakers, if they match the sound quality of my wired speakers. Also a wireless system that is non-obtrusive is important.

4.If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)

I do not have a computer sound system.

5.When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?

It is very important to me.

1. Do you currently own or have a need for powered speakers? If yes, where?

No, outside of my sub, but that's a little different.

2. In your opinion can powered speakers sound as good as passive speakers paired with an amp or receiver?

I suppose. It would depend on the setup and desired end use. I heard some passive setups that couldn't sound much better, whereas I've heard some powered setups that sound like crap due to poor implementation.

3. If you add wireless surround speakers to your home theater system, will they match the sound quality of your passive speakers? Is this something you would consider doing?

I wouldn't do this as I am one of those weirdos that actually enjoys running wires to and from difficult places. I might consider it for a second zone (ie garage or deck) though.

4. If you use a desktop computer speaker system, what do you like or dislike about the system? (size, sound, quality)

I do, and I like it because it's THX certified, so it's good quality in a small package. On the downside it clutters up my desk with more junk and wires. In the future I probably won't use them anymore as I don't us my desktop that often anymore.

5. When you are listening to music, how important is the ability to change songs and source without walking to your audio system?

Paramount, I'm American and have earned the right to point a remote at a box and cuss if it doesn't work.

Contest Questions:
1. My desktop PC has powered speakers hooked up to it

2. I have never heard a pair of powered speakers able to compete with my home stereo system. It may be possible but unlikely.

3. I do not think rear surrounds have to match the front speakers exactly. My current surround system does not have matching rears. The wireless option would be nice to complete my 7.1 setup and something I would definitely consider.

4. My computer is hooked up to small active speakers currently and then also hooked up to both of my home theater receivers digitally. The desktop speaker system is only used for watching and listening to low quality content like youtube etc. If I'm going to listen to music I turn off the pc speakers and turn on the receiver. The size is super tiny which is nice, the sound and quality that comes from the desktop speakers is only ok at best.

5. This isnt important to me at all. I mainly listen to music while sitting in my computer chair. I also have a remote where i can turn off or change the volume on the receiver while sitting in my computer chair.
