I voted good knowledge.
I've been "into" audio/video for decades, but got away from it for quite a while. Just got back a few months ago with purchases of the following:
Yamaha RX-V2700
Denon 2930CI
Toshiba A2
Toshiba XA2
I've been able to set everything up easily, and all of the above equipment works beautifully.
Next stop......new speakers.

I have a basic knowledge, but learning something new everyday. I'm just getting into the A/V, HT scene and can't wait to begin purchasing and setting up my system...hopefully Axiom and Denon components.

I voted expert just based on the descriptions given, however when it comes to the real high end stuff with separate amps and eq's and what not I may need some assistance in calibrating everything, but as far as doing a basic 7.1 home theater system, I can handle that.

I have my system set up but plan on tweaking it soon - switching to all HDMI and toslink. For the life of me though I can't understand why receivers need to be so darn complicated - they please the 1% with every feature but the 80% majority suffers from exceeding complexity - can't there be a middle ground?

re: Axiom Audio poll and contest

I have good enough knowledge to know I'm not nearly good enough.

Starting the search for (a) sub and (b) replacement speakers for my center and 1978 JBL L19's. I'd be an expert if I could talk my wife into (a) AND (b)...:)

I picked Good Knowledge, as I'm very comfortable with all aspects of setting up my equipment (no color analyzer, but Aivia has worked well for me, as has my RS SPL meter). But that's the key...setting up MY equipment. In know it, I researched it, I'm comfortable with it.

Definitely not expert, as there is too much new stuff coming on the market. I felt cutting edge when I started streaming audio from my computer to my home theater!!!

Your overall knowledge of A/V Home Entertainment

I voted for "Good Knowledge - ie can set it up from start to finish." Since home theater (HT) has been my hobby for the past six years, I perform daily research on HT literature, online and otherwise, and tweak and upgrade my HT system whenever I get the chance. Since my hobby is well known among my inner circle, I often get A/V questions and provide advice on such matters, especially on purchase options and system set up.

AXIOM poll

Good Knowledge since I have set up many various stereo and A/V systems over the years for myself, my school and for friends and relatives. I used to read more and keep up better, but in the last few years have not stayed up as much as before. Right now I really need new speakers. I want some earth shakers, but my s.o. wants those nice little sattelites that nobody will notice are in the room until you crank it up so loud you can hear the hissing. Talked her out of the little white cubes by the big boyz, now looking at Infinity TSS 1100, (they come in "Platinum") unless someone can talk me out of it with something she will accept. $1000 off Axiom order would be enough to sway both sides in this one though. Mike.

Good basics

I feel like I've moved my system enough times now that I don't need a manual to hook everything back up. I can do basic calibrations with the Avia disc, but not anything that requires the service menu.:)

I consider myself with good knowledge that I've gained with adequate equipment. Currently saving too replace speakers and receiver. The real fun now is starting to integrate the system with the rest of my house for lighting; media centre server and RF remotes. The calibration side of things is just done by the simple tasks I've learned on this site. As my reading continues I hope to become and expert in one of the areas as I do work full time :) (You're a lucky person if you do this full time however)

I voted basic knowledge because I can set all the connections up but will probably need some help to set crossover points etc. to get the HT to sound great.

I know enough to set up rooms and equipment to increase sound quality, etc., but I don't know enough to replace an expert. That is why I picked good knowledge.

good knowledge

i voted good knowledge, this website is what got me back into home theater, years ago i had a little kenwood receiver and tape player with 2 kenwood mains. since finding this site i have gotten back into audio and now i consider myself an audiophile. I have since bought new yamaha receiver htr 5960, axiom qs8s, pv 1000 boston accoustics, ba center vr910 and everything i set up on my own, component vid, opt outs, 5.1. I dont consider myself a expert because i havent stepped up to getting into buying preams, amps and running tests on gear such as measuring frequencies, i figure by constantly reading on this site i will one day be an expert!!:)

I voted basic knowledge because I am still learning about home theater systems. I have limited knowledge about setting the speakers and in fact less knowledge about comparing quality of speakers.

I had to choose good. I know enough to get the setup "decent", but can't claim to be an expert. Always areas for improvement and learning.

knowledge

the survey needed to ask less about "being able to install" and more "how determine right mix of speakers and vendor" otherwise this is an excellent site. wish it had more comparisons within each speaker review, rather than just the run-off article, which was very useful.

Novice or Expert

Have a home recording studio and have been recording music for 20 years. Have a firm grasp of audio theory, etc.. but still need the manual to set up my A/V receiver.
