    B&W 685 no manual?

Interesting. I have actually been considering the 685s. I would like to check out the studio 20s, but there are no Paradigm dealers within reasonable driving distance, and no online dealers at all.:( (I had a pair of DM603 S2s and really liked them. I got caught in the trap of thinking "If...

Assuming the company you are buying your integrated amp from also makes a good CD player (or vice-versa), I can't see what is "wasteful" about it. Also, when the components are stacked directly without a rack (as mine always are), merely the same color doesn't cut it. Finally, it is nice to be...

Thanks. I just hope it proves to be a clearly audible improvement. Looks and build quality are nice, but only better sound justifies the cost in my mind.

Tradeff: size vs PQ. Would you do it?

You may be right. In any event, I ended up spending my tax return on audio gear, so the TV has been postponed. I have discovered that I only think about screen size when I am firing up the system. Once I am watching a movie, I get completely absorbed in the plot and forget about it entirely.

If I decribe my ideal small floorstander in abstract terms (without reference to any particular make/model), and then go back and read what I wrote, it turns out that I have described the Omni 350s exactly. This is why any future upgrade will be bookshelves instead. The Classic Threes do look...

I have just ordered the Cambridge Audio Azur 340A and 340C. Full report when I get them. So far, I have been very impressed with my Mirage Omni 350s, and hopefully they will benefit even more from the new electronics. (If I do get new speakers in the future, I lean towards good bookshelves...

    Entry Level Sound System

I guess I will find out. I just ordered the Azur pair. (Shipping should be much faster than they estimate, as the warehouse is here in OKC.)

The deepest bass from a bookshelf?

They are out of business.:( The site offers DIY plans, though.

    Entry Level Sound System

Time for a decision. Would replacing my Onkyo C315 one-box electronics with entry-level high-end components (either the Cambridge Audio 340A and 340C or the NAD 315BEE and 515BEE) provide a clearly audible improvement? (Note: According to What HiFi, the Onkyo unit "rivals the sound of many...

    Speaker power

My speakers are 89dB and 8 Ohm nominal, but 4 Ohm throughout most of their range. My amp is rated 20 watts/ch at 4 Ohms, and is plenty powerful enough in my 10' X 20' room.

The deepest bass from a bookshelf?

Not very good with a camera, and pretty clueless about uploading pictures into my PC.:o

    Trance Dance

Don't get caught with ephedrine. It is illegal in many states now (including Oklahoma, where I live.) My favorites in the Trance Dance category include the Higher Intelligence Agency, Banco De Gaia, and Goldfrapp.

Tradeff: size vs PQ. Would you do it?

Sho 'nuff. It has struck already. Now it is largely a matter of which one to get. Here are the relevant issues: 1) My collection of SD DVDs is far too large for me to seriously consider HD or Blu Ray, and I don't watch broadcast TV. This means I really wouldn't benefit from 1080p. 2) I am all...

So how do the more affordable Totems (Dreamcatcher, Rainmaker, Mite) compare to the Mani-2s?

The deepest bass from a bookshelf?

The system I am currently listening to is the Onkyo C315 one-box electronics and Mirage Omni 350s. I also own a Carver CM-1090 integrated amp (massive power but a bit lacking in clarity and soundstage), an Onkyo DX-C390 CD changer (great sound but bulky, plus I have come to prefer a...

    Cube/Satellite speakers HELP!

Mirage Nanosat system. Around $800 including sub. Tiny, beautiful, and sound that will blow Bose so far out of the water there will be nothing left but the splash.

That counts as using a sub (actually two subs), though.

The deepest bass from a bookshelf?

Nothing in this thread has ever had anything to do with watching movies. I would not be the least interested in how deep bookshelves go except in a 2.0 music system. As for needing a sub with towers, that obviously depends on the towers. My Def Tech BP10Bs most assuredly do not need a sub.

If you mean as each other, then that is obvious since the dicussion has been limited to a single stereo pair. If you mean same manufacturer as the electronics, the concensus was that that is not such a good idea.
