When we say, "Human hearing is 20-20kHz" that's sort of a generality. An easy to remember shortcut.
Women differ from men.
Age causes a huge change, at least in that top value. [e.g. People past their 20's like no longer can hear 20kHz.] [psst: The good news is high frequency hearing loss usually is so gradual as your decades of life increase that you hardly notice this change unless you run tests where it gets exposed.]
Life long exposure to noise changes things too.
Also it's not that we "stop hearing", say outside "20Hz to 20kHz"; its more like the level we need starts to skyrocket beyond those easy-to-remember values:

Also it's not talked about much but my own private analysis found that not only are the extreme parts of the range more difficult to hear, they are also the least important parts to our hearing for determining if something is "off".
Regarding levels necessary for infrasonic thresholds of human hearing detection, this graphic of many studies show they all agree that detecting sound at 10Hz and lower need a
ton more SPL. . . [and these necessary levels aren't usually encoded in the movies and music we buy in the first place, not so much because they technically
can't be but because doing so means compromising the signal-to-noise ratio [think: absence of background hiss] of the parts that more truly do matter to our appreciation of the music:
