Damn man, you beat me to the scheduled release for tomorrow.
Quick question. Is this the reason why A6A review can be seen through direct link from thread-share only and cannot be found by wider readers through normal browsing on the AH's home page or product reviews page?

The link shared in this thread leads us to A6A measurements here:

Normal browsing doesn't take us to A6A article at all, at the moment. Not present on home page or in product reviews or in AV receiver reviews. Am I doing something wrong or the release on the home page is yet to happen?

Thanks for all measurements, time spent to review this product and flag up issues that need to be addressed.

What issues? I read the whole review nothing to loose sleep over. No one is gonna hear anything from the Center, SL,SR at 0.05 THD. But gives the spec heads something to fuss about.

I am almost sure (90% chance I am wrong ;) ) that the difference between channel distortion comes from different DAC architecture... ESS9007 vs ESS9026Pro
You're probably right. However there is likely a Opamp buffer stage between the pre and power amp causing higher distortion in the amp section than there should be. Again likely not audible but academic nonetheless.

Damn man, you beat me to the scheduled release for tomorrow.

There are some pretty significant things that need to be addressed and Yamaha is already planning changes in the next gen models as a result.
Gene I posted this earlier, sorry if I wasn’t suppose to. I was in my car (stopped at a light, promise…….) and I literally have no idea how I ended up on the review but it appeared to be for public consumption. At least we can all look forward to the video tomorrow, haha.

Anyhoo… I do have some questions. ;) I replied to your post via Patreon but hearing this is a fix for a later time may be enough for now. Next gen doesn’t sound the same as next firmware.

The analog path and PEQs are appealing.

I think everybody has done a very good job of pacing themselves seeing as this was your last post way back on Nov 15, 2021... "Just a quick update. Yamaha confirmed my measurements but there doesn't seem to be a recourse in fixing anything. I will publish the test report as it stands and do my listening tests next to see if any of this is audible. Stay tuned...." I can only speak for myself but I lost count on how many times a day I have checked this thread and others waiting for your review with a looming return window closing just in case there is something to be concerned with. With that being said Thank You Gene and Happy Holidays!

Yea it's OK. I put content on Patreon first as one of the perks but I've that people have been waiting awhile on this. I spent more time testing and reconfirmed my results on this product than any other product I've measured prior.

Out of curiosity, I was wondering about testing methodology over digital HDMI input. Do you test on one specific HDMI port at all times? Would 22dB distortion measurement on those three channels be the same over all seven HDMI inputs? I am asking this as there are two separate chips on board handling different ports.

It is true that this was the most extensive testing suite I have seen recently. Bowing to your patience and attention to detail.

I tried different HDMI inputs and the problem persisted. I have probably close to 100 measurements I've captured but only published a fraction of them in the report.

Its unfortunate that Yamaha has let the ball drop a little with these releases. Hopefully with sites like Audioholics and ASR (ignoring the idiots that can't tell the difference between a review and preview), I hope that Yamaha will receive the message that mediocre is seen as a bad thing in their upper end models and will strive to do better and get back to producing stellar equipment like they did in the past. The other thing I don't understand is why did Yamaha install differential I/O on their AVRs? Are they trying to gain market gain from audiophiles? Audiophiles see AVRs as inferior and feel that they aren't as musical as separates or integrated amps. It makes very little sense to add differential I/O on an AVR and it will fail from a marketing perspective to attract audiophiles.

I was in Kohl’s parking lot doing an Amazon return…. Still not sure how I ended up on the review. Anyway, pretty impossible to use my phone while driving.
That looks fun. Definitely could leave the phone at home…
You said stopped at a light. That would normally imply a traffic light. Anyway,
I spend a lot of time driving and see way too many idiots driving while shopping, or Facebooking etc. I passed a guy tonight that had his phone mounted on the dash with a YouTube video playing. W. T. F.

Did you mean 24 Gbps and 40 Gbps HDMI boards on the two different tiers of models?

Audiophiles see AVRs as inferior and feel that they aren't as musical as separates or integrated amps.
Here, we are entering the rabbit hole of definition of an "audiophile". That's one thing. Secondly, there are a few AVRs high even on Amir's famous list. Not many, but still. It's certainly possible to design one. Lastly, AVRs are segmented and often represent a working compromise between audio fidelity and consumer market forces driven by modern home entertainment needs, such as convenient multi-speaker set-ups and one "all-in-one amp machine". AVRs are heavily threatened by exploding popularity of soundbars, as those also have multi HDMI inputs and growing software control panel. In order to survive this market pressure, AVRs will need to remain diverse, convincing and innovative in connectivity department.

Mainstream consumer market forces upon vendors the principles of wider affordability, simplicity and convenience of use. In order to deliver an AVR with such parameters, vendors must cut corners somewhere. Still, there is nothing wrong with buying the cheapest V4A in Costco, enjoying the soundtrack of new Dune and thinking of being a sci-fi movies audiophile ;)
