You don't notice the wing so much from inside, at least I don't, but I've owned winged cars before. You can also order it with a smaller WRX style wing or no wing.

You don’t notice it but the police sure do I actually bought a second trunk lid for my 07 but with the small lip spoiler and had it painted the matching CGM.
Anytime it was necessary I’d swap the big wing trunk out for the other for a month or two and just rotate them as was needed.

Agree the STI is the better built car and stronger driveline but if you have bad knees or often drive in traffic you will not love the clutch in the STI.

Oh my...yet another Raiders of the Lost Ark Staff of Ra headpiece medallion has arrived (the one from the bar scene in Nepal and map room in Egypt, which is different from the one shown when the old guy is reading the writing on it). I also got this SLICK laser etched sphere with a galaxy inside. Looks pretty spiffy on the light box I was using with my Blade Runner 2049 etched orb.

I will be treating it very nice for a few months before I start to push it. Also without the wing and the subdued color it does not scream PULL ME OVER like some do. A little bummed I could not go STI but my at least it won't double my gas station trips. My first car with a trunk. I've always had little hatch backs or a truck. I can get my golf clubs and stuff in the back and not have to hear them rattle around. This was my 50th B-day present early. Now to start saving for the snowtire setup I will need.

Well, I had the 2011 WRX Limited in Charcoal Grey (shown in avatar) and while it actually had similar Horsepower to the STI at the time (not published as such to make the STI look better, but the dynos all showed it and with one less worthless gear from the STI (no one uses 1st on that model it's so short), it could easily blow past an STI), it didn't have the giant wing to call attention to itself and it didn't stop a highway patrol guy going the other way on the other side of the freeway from going to the nearest U-turn and coming up behind me at 130+ mph to pull me over and give me a ticket for going 86mph in a 65mph zone on a Sunday with no traffic around (he said he clocked me doing 89, but I say BS). I had to change insurance after that as American Family raised mine by $400 a year after that ticket (which was only $105). Fortunately, Geico LOWERED my insurance by $300 a year instead (even knowing about the ticket) and I ended up changing to Allstate (to get a combined house discount) and ended up saving $800 a year (thanks Mr. Highway Patrol!) instead. :D

I had to behave myself after that for awhile (it seems they increased patrols on that road due to some tax grant as there never used to be anyone on that section hardly ever before. I had another WRX before that and never had a ticket for 8 years. I didn't normally speed that much (I was late for work), but certainly got lucky for some time (I've actually only ever had two speeding tickets my entire life).

The 2015+ WRX is a lot different (2.0L DIT, 6sp), but in 2011, there was a bigger gap between the WRX and STI. Numbers don't tell that story either, but there are a number of big differences that won't really show up until you're in the twisties. On the track, the Brembos alone make a big difference in shaving those lap times. the turbo size is actually the same on the WRX and STI in 2011, but the WRX has a smaller intercooler and 90 deg. exit from the turbo, limiting flow a bit, which you'll notice at the bottom as it doesn't spool up as fast. The 6th gear means more changing them, but also means putting down more power in each of them and a better selection (2,3,+4) for the important midrange band where all the power is. The 2015+ WRX all have 6sp and 5x114.3 hubs now. The 2015+ STIs have yaw control like Evos, which I really like and 6/4pot brembos (my APs are 6/4 also, though I have 2 piece rotors and SST lines too).

Honestly it was the Brembos and diffs that made me want the STI more than the increase in the HP that is on paper. Several reviews said the 0-60 is identical because of the increase in boost with the 2.0 and you are only in second where the STI had to be up in third and that extra shift evened them out. I am learning to accept that I don't "need" and this is the best/most fun car I have ever owned so it is enough for now.

Yeah, I didn't drive it on the track so the differences there were pretty pointless (other than Brembos are always nice). I didn't have trouble doing 75mph around 25mph rated turns not far from here (very go-kart like car). The ride was also a lot rougher in day to day driving and the streets around here are bad enough as it is. The extra gear was between 1st and 2nd by comparison (6th and 5th were mostly identical between the two) and the 1st gear on the STI was way too short whereas I could hit around 35 mph in 1st on the 2011 and almost 70mph in second. For actual street driving (not track),the regular WRX was better in 2011, IMO. That giant wing has always been a gaudy looking thing and that was standard in 2011. But to each their own. I wasn't into racing. I do kind of regret not getting a closeout 2014 WRX hatchback at the time, though....

The newer WRX is a much smaller car and I didn't have to put the seat all the way back in the 2011, but it's not even comfortable at 6'2" for me in the newer car so I didn't buy one. I went with the 2015 Forester XT instead at the time. I'm now looking at the Dodge Challenger. I'd like a 400HP AWD version, but the 300HP AWD doesn't even have a manual option (I miss shifting). I think the car is heavy enough that it probably wouldn't be too terrible in the snow with RWD with some snow tires on it. I was looking at the Honda Accord with a turbo 6-speed, but it's FWD and I'm not a big fan of oversteer.

I have to adjust to 5sp vs 6sp all the time as I have an 04 WRX and the STI. Definitely notice less shifting in the WRX, but have to rev it out more since it was only 230 vs 260 in the newer WRX (and 2.0 vs. 2.5). I don't mind the gearing in the STI, but the extra shift does add some time for that extra shift. For me, on the street the BIGGEST difference is the DCCD, the ability to make the STI behave basically like a RWD car. It won't go 100% RWD, but the bias is enough to really change the feel (70 or 80%, I forget) and you notice it right away.

The new model has more interior fluff - It is actually the same size, but they added more "comfort" which makes it feel smaller. Cabin length, I never noticed if the wheel well to wheel well is shorter, which it may be. I drove my friend's '18 STI recently and it felt pretty similar to mine.

Even in 11 you could order it the same, WRX wing or no wing. It isn't an option, you just had to ask, because lots of people don't like the wing. I bought mine used so I didn't get to pick.

I think I may just stick to Fofos and F150s.
I had 90k on my first WRX when I traded it in and it had ZERO issues the entire life of the car except regular maintenance and I launched it at 6K-7K probably at least once a day on average. I traded the 2011 with 53K on it and no issues (other than a dent in the quarter panel that happened in my driveway (don't ask) other than the clutch grease on the fork seemed to be drying up at one point (squeak and some other odd sound sometimes after clutching) which might have eventually lead to clutch failure (known problem with those models that Subaru didn't want to address). I put a clutch sleeve kit on it and greased it up and it was fine again.

I have to agree about them holding their value. I picked up the last one on the lot in 2011 (right after the Japan Earthquake) which is how I ended up with a Limited (got it for the Premium price, though after negotiating for a half hour). I traded it with 4.5 years and 53k miles and that dent in the quarter panel and STILL got $23.5k for it (paid $28.5k + tax/title for a Limited retailing at $32.5k with SPT exhaust, LED footwell lights, compass/garage door mirror and a few other options). I couldn't have leased a regular Impreza for that amount of time for that. Sadly, my Forester XT is a similar age with only 33k miles on it right now (didn't drive it all over Canada for one thing) and it's worth less than $18k according to Blue Book the last time I checked (probably even less now).

I bought my Forester XT for $10.5K, drove it for 3 years (put a lot into maint. though) and with 160K on it, I sold it for $10.5K, no issues :) My first WRX had 150K on it when I sold it. No issues. Bought it for 10K sold it for $9K after 3yrs. The STI is worth what I bought it for after 3 yrs - 27K per KBB, but there's a lot of extra goodies on it so I could get more. 2011 with only 30K on it (once turbo is replaced lol). So kind of like almost free cars, except for regular maint. They go and go and go.

Affects only the 2.5L turbos and not all of them. Subaru extended all owner's factory warranties over this issue to 8yrs. Mine unfortunately may fall outside that window, but I also bought an extended warranty on top of that so it is still covered.
