Amazon has apparently matched it also.
I think there should be just a little bit of caution. I don't know how much there is in common between the 77705 and 7706, however from Amir's measurements the results are strikingly similar apart from improved DAC performance.

Now this unit is made in Japan and the 7705 and 7706 made in Vietnam.

I raise the issue as my 7705 failed at five years and the 7706 at 3 months. The faults were remarkably similar and most likely due to power supply issues.

Marantz have had the 7706 for warranty repair for 2 months and I have heard nothing. After talking to two Marantz certified repair centers, I was told there were no parts and they could not service the 7705, so it went to the recycling center.

I have bought the AV 10, and much to my surprise the sound quality is significantly improved and the S/N ratio so improved you can not tell the equipment is on in a quiet room.

So, I am not sure what the cost of entry is for Atmos units, But I have a hunch it is higher than realized. If the AV 10 has a long life then it is a much better value than the other two. In addition the build quality of the AV 10 is spectacular and way better than any other of the AVPs I have owned.

Now that the AV10 is taking hold, they need to clear out the 8805As before their value drops even more. 45% off is nothing to sneeze at for a unit like that.

I think that is very true. However should it have a short life it is still a bad deal. I am reassured that these units are made in Japan. I have a very strong suspicion that black market caps were at the bottom of my issues. This is less likely in Japan, and an issue they are very much aware of, and have been coming down hard on.

But we get to the issue of signal to noise. The AV 10 is the first processor I have had that can be considered comparable to the rest of my gear installed in this regard. Having a truly silent background really counts for a lot.

Despite its cost, if you are in the market for an AV processor with the facilities the AV 10 has to offer, it should be seriously considered. Purchase price is only one factor in considering a purchase. The rub, though it is very hard to assess true value for money at the time of purchase given the new model introduction time frame. Now this technology is at maturity in my view it is time to slow down the new model cycle. This allows for units to be truly perfected. This is where marketers need to get pink slips. They have a vested interest as they will run out of things to do, which is more than fine with me.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 8805A to replace my aging Onkyo PR-RZ5100. The Onkyo is a 9 year old unit with 11.2 Atmos and 4K when they were relatively brand new technologies. Dolby Vision was patched in. It has some issues with HDMI handshakes and does not support eARC also. The 8805A is a much more mature platform to this end and at this price it is hard to resist. Sure the AV20 would be fantastic to have but I would rather wait for HDMI 2.2 to rollout and the bugs worked out before spending that kind of money.
I will let the forum know the manufacturing date of the 8805A once I get it.
