Yamaha released their newest lineup of AVENTAGE AV Receivers, the RX-A 70 series. Not only has the base model dropped to $600, it still has DTS:X and Dolby Atmos immersive surround formats AND Yamaha has included 4K Ultra HD video support with Dolby Vision and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG). This is the eighth generation of the AVENTAGE series network AV receivers from Yamaha and look to be their best yet.

Read on to see if their newest base model RX-A670 is still worth its cost of admission.

Changes are very small this year. Even the crappy YPAO mic is still same limiting the subwoofer eq low hz. Most of 60 serie will get all the updates, so it would be crazy to buy the more expensive 70 serie. o_O

If you consider the video processing changes to be small, then maybe it's not your cup of tea. But for people in the market for a new avr, or needing the updated processing, the units still like good. As for the " crappy mic" only a small amount of manufacturers provide full body mics, and for most of us that area serious about non Auto eq, own the appropriate mics.

RX-A1070
The AVENTAGE RX-A1070 includes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X processing with Cinema DSP HD for even more dynamic and lifelike motion and spatial representation from 3D surround sound programming. The AV receiver features three DSP LSI chips providing sound with enhanced levels of presence and realism. Other step-up features from the RX-A870 include: 110W per channel; eight HDMI 2.0a inputs with HDCP 2.2 and dual HDMI/HDCP 2.2 outputs. The AV receiver also adds symmetrical amplifier layout and YPAO multipoint room calibration with 64-bit precision EQ and subwoofer EQ for precise automatic channel output adjustments.

So they improved the subwoofer EQ, but can you EQ multisubs independently? That is, this model has 2 sub jacks, are they independent or simply a Y-splitter internally?

Now that the 3070 is out just may snag a 2050 or 3050 come Oct. Prices have dropped nicely.

So the previous Generation had:

"Subwoofer equalization (EQ) is supported in all AVENTAGE RX-A 60 Series AV receivers and the RX-A760 model on up benefit from subwoofer parametric EQ down to 15.6 Hz. Note, this is only for manual PEQ function. YPAO correction is still limited to 31Hz which is likely due to limitations of the accuracy of microphone being used."

from what i understand this feature (subwoofer equalization) got bumped up to the 1070?

that's a HUGE fail!
please correct me if i'm wrong

From 1070 manual;

(15.6 Hz to 250.0 Hz for subwoofer)
Q factor: 0.500 to 10.08

Audussey XT32 is still ahead as it can eq the sub down to 10hz. But how much of a problem this is in real life for Yamaha owners as they are stuck at 31,5hz with the sub eq? People are still happy with Yamahas in generally. But there has been reports that adding something like Antimode 8033C with the Yamaha avr makes the subwoofer sound much better in room. So definitely lacking little bit.. Comments guys?

What is unknown is why Yamaha won`t "fix" this offering better YPAO mic in the first place? They will surely know this limiting factor. It has moved many customers to D&M camp. As is usually been said the "bass notes" needs the most eq in room.

A3050 in group test; The confusing menu system aside, setting up the A3050 was relatively straight forward, although the YPAO sound optimisation feature didn't handle low frequencies very well.

@gene what are your thoughts regarding this "problem" ?
