High+Wide means using front height as well as front wide speakers. Doing so means no surround back channels as there aren’t enough amps to go around. The designation for it back then and even now is a mess.

This is why 7.1 channel signals will often be displayed as 7.1B to indicate that there is a seven channel signal with three channels up front, two at the sides and two in back rather than five at the front, two at the sides none in back.

Manufacturers may have anticipated Sony finally bringing SDDS to home theater. It incorporated front wide channels but they never did it. So, front wides were basically dropped by just about everybody. Sony recently decided to fling their s#%t at everybody and came out with 360 Reality Audio processing in their receivers and added bottom front channel speakers.o_O

But, I digress. Here is the HIGH + WIDE configuration. In your case, you will tell it NO and set wide speakers to NONE. This will give you what these days is considered to be a 7.1.2 setup.

JUST SAY NO!
