HI Bill,

Glad you're ok!

Only yesterday I'd connected the sub and it sound okay, but no way as good as before when I was using the single subwoofer cable on my Teac AVH500. I've connected the cable the way you described to me on the previous post... strange!
I have to argue with that. I had subwoofer previously connected to LFE output(that one RCA) and as per my years it does not beat the High Level connection. I am thinking that you might mixes the + with - on one of the channels and the bass cancel. I know cause I done that in the past. You have to carefully check it. Also pay attention to the PHASE on the subwoofer.

Another thing I'd noticed with the 500i is when I turn the balance knob left to right I can hear some cracking noise! But other wise it's bloody amazing.
Reading this issue there is a pretty easy fix. You buy DEOXIT Fader F5 or any other potentiometer cleaning spray(but not the cheapest) and clean it. you have access to those pots just removing the upper cover. See YouTube for details on how to do it. I advise to this for all the pots. Will work soother.

Plus on your previous post you upgraded the caps and resistors. Which went straight over my head lol only because I truly don't understand electronics at all.. sorry. But sound great.
Was that on the the 500i?
I have 2 units one is much more used then the other, and needed some technical revise. Changed some components, and totally satisfied with it. Yes was in a-h500i.

Kind Regards,
Claudiu

Hello Teac-enthousiasts. I read a lot about the 500 reference but not about the 600 (AG-H600 & PD-H600) reference duo (receiver+CD). Is this in a seperate section in this forum? I used the search function (looking glass) but without succes (can be my lack of knowledge of this forum). I have trouble with the volume knob, very sporadically "jumping" to maximum!!! This happened twice whit the first volume adjustment after switching on the unit (from stand by). Also, happening more often but not really a problem, is that it "jumps" steps f.e. from 45 to 50, up or down, or not reacting when turning the button fast.
My 1st question: how to take away the front panel of the amplifier? I opened the top cover. Removed the screws from the front (3 black at the top, 6 silver in the bottom) but no movement of the front cover possible... May be need more force but I first want to be sure if I'm doing right? Can someone tell me? Also, I wonder, if the rotating digital step counter is optical or mechanical. Is their anyhow a chance that "cleaning" might help?
2nd question: the DAB and Internet radio happen to stop playing after quite a time of playing, let's say after a couple of hours. FM does work when I switch to it at that moment! I suppose there is a problem of getting hot in the DAB/Internet tuning section? System has normal cooling; not in closed cabinet and on top of CD-player.
Who can help? Can be in Dutch (Marcel?), if allowed in this forum. But of course, English is OK too!
Regards,
Frans

Question 1 partly solved... by myself. The side panels have to be removed first to reach 2 screws at each side. Ckeaning the volume "potmeter" however does not seem posible (look at the pictures). This is a so miniature thing and closed... It also has a push-function for adjusting balance and tone if desired. So I think replacement will be the only solution ... if seperate available as a spare part? Otherwise it will be the complete front pcb I'm afraid...
My 2nd question is still open...

Hey guys!

What a great thread we have here :)

I´ve got a TEAC AV-500 surround amplifier (not the modern "AV -500D") and it sounds amazing with my B&W CDM 2 speakers! After 20 years in use, it still kicks some ass!

After diving deep into the "Teac Reference" world I´ve got some questions:

1 - Both AV-500 and AV-500D have a toroidal power supply? After researching this information I found nothing conclusive even reading their manuals and forums along the way.

2 - Does the A-500i amplifier sound better than the AV-500?

BTW, this is my current SETUP:

AV 500 Surround Amplifier
T-H500 Tuner
PD-500 Compact Disc Player
R-H500 Cassette Player
2 x Technics SL1200 Mk2 (with Ortofon Concorde Dj S needles)
2 x Pioneer XDJ 1000 Mk2
Pioneer DJM 900 Nexus Mixer
B&W CDM 2 speakers

Cheers!
Good evening everyone, I'm a fan of vintage TEAC equipment.
I recently bought a TEAC AV-500, but it has a problem on the led meter. I do not have the manual or even the technical diagram, so please ask if anyone has it.
I would be very grateful if someone could show me where to find this documentation.
Thanks a lot and bye

2nd question (almost) solved too,... by myself. Apparantly no other rerence-600-owners here? If there are, can someone tell me how to find them please? (The looking glass did not give a result)

Concerning the DAB/Internet radio problem: I once undocked and redocked the small PCB and since then, it did not stop playing anymore, even after multiple hours of listening. I hope it was just a bad contact in the socket of that PCB.
I adressed my questions to the local "official" TEAC distributor for Belgium/The Netherlands, and they answered me I'd better replace the whole unit because repair cost would be to high...

I just did find out what type of encoders I need and ordered them locally at a couple of euro's!!!

Is the teac dv-h550 dvd player is good for cd-s? I had the dv-h500 and that was awful for cd-s, it had skips and speed ups in playback with cd-s i had no problem at all in other players.

That's generally a problem with the laser, loosing power. How old is the player? Sometimes, the laser power can be adjusted with a tiny potmeter. I once tried this with a cheap system 'nothing to loose' (with a "universal" Sony laser build in), with noticeable improvement, but not 100%...

I sold it since. Well it was minimum 10 years old if not 15.

Does anyone know what laser mechanism is used on TEAC CR-H500 CD receiver?

Hello fello TEAC reference series fans.

I have a couple of questions:
1. Did they ever make a 500 series DAB radio receiver? (I know they did a 300 series DAB radio)
2. I have the 500 series mini disk player, however it sometimes struggles to read mini disks (i love my mix tapes) anyone else have this issue, what is the fix?

thank you Paul

Hi Paul,
1. The closest thing was the CR-H500 as shown attached.
2. Sorry, I'm not an expert on that

Hi Diogo,
Thank you for the reply and info. I have to say the CR-H500 isnt a asthetically pleasing as the Reference Series units. One of the features I like about my 500 and 300 series units is how clean the front panels are.

As a crazy idea, has anyone put the internals of a 300 series DAB receiver into the chassis of a 500 series unit?

Paul
