Hey, where would be the best place to try and sell the built in oven, microwave and dishwasher? All perfect condition and 2 years old.

For you? Stay home and do nothing. Somebody will be along shortly to pay you twice your asking price. I've never seen a luckier guy than you.:D

Yes, about a grand more. Carolyn doesn't really like the shadowing so we will see.

Here are some pictures of the kitchen and mantel back from my "first shot at HT days".

We are also changing all the appliances to SS.
To guys like me the 'shadowing' is the next level of sophistication in wood finishes.

I just got what "first shot at HT days" means. :D That's funny.

Me and my girl are going SS too. When it breaks it gets replaced with SS. :D
So far it's just the dish washer. Well, we did buy a nice SS garbage can. ;)
Hey, it cost over $100.:)

Your doors are white, are they not?

By "woodwork" I mean doors and trim. Personally I wouldn't hesitate to paint up the crown.

I'm trying to gently coax you into an accepted convention.

I'd like to see a pic of the mantle. I saw that your cabinets are like a natural oak. Heaven help the guy who goes at that. I would be worried about a blotchy finish. You might be best served by buying a similar cabinet door and letting him provide you with a test piece.
Hi Greg I agree with Alex 100%, I'd have all the trim the same, white.
I've installed miles of finish work, and it's usually the same through out a house. As Alex said "It's an accepted convention."

You've got a beautiful house, it looks like you just need something to tie it all together.
You know.....the way Alex does with all of his 'outfits.' J/K :D- I couldn't resist.

I wonder if some basic advice from an interior decorator would help?
Just to get you on the right track.
Good Luck,
Rick

Hi Greg I agree with Alex 100%.
Wow, I don't hear that very often. What's he need an interior decorator for. I got enough sugar in my tank to pick colors. I was thinking that since he is getting the whole place painted that the trim paint might be darkened a tad to land somewhere in between the wall and floor shades but didn't want to stir things up and it's kind of a bold move. I think it's kind of like basketball. You dribble and you shoot. Simple enough, right?

Speaking of outfits I just joined a gym with a pool. Where can I get a Speedo with the @$$ cheeks cut out. I would post a pic of a fat guy in a Speedo but that would just be rude. ;):D

We decided to do it white, I think that will work the best.

Here is a couple of pictures of our finished spare bathroom. Alex helped me a lot on this as it was going to be a simple paint job and change the mirror but turned into a wall patching party. Those contractor grade mirrors tend to pull all the sheetrock off the wall when you take them down.

Thanks for all the help!

I am about to run to Home Depot and look at appliances. We are thinking GE Profile unless you guys have heard bad things about them. Anything else I should consider? Can someone shoot 5k to my PayPal account real quick?

I thought we didn't believe in CR and we searched for unbiased reviews.....

Are built in appliances pretty standard sizes or is this going to require some cabinet mods?

 CR is unbiased. Not the go to place for audio but for fridges and tires it's my choice. Your stuff will have standard replacements but I'm sure you will find some odd size must have thing to spend money on. You are like Captain Spend. :D

I am not Captain Spend...this is actually saving me money. I have decided not to pursue a dedicated HT room in this house. I had the guys come out and it will cost me every bit of 70k to do the additions. I am just not comfortable with that at this point, as it will put my house at the most expensive in the neighborhood and I would likely lose money when I sell it.

My goal now is to just make my house nice and add value to it up to the proper point. I will have to live with the HT gear in the living room. I am still considering a big plasma for the wall and putting all my gear in a closet to clean it up a tad.

LOL... How funny. Good luck with your wife. I just renovated a new home I purchased and yes the appliances are a fortune. My advice, go the Home Depot and do the no interest no payment deals. It makes the bleeding feel a little more tolerable. Although the Sig 8's are tempting. I love those speakers.

Are you going white on the trim? That would be my recommendation. Keep all trim, crown and doors white. All of these need to be the same color. You may not want to go with a straight white, but Benjamin Moore makes a great color called Linen white that will look nice. Be sure to use a semi-gloss paint on your trim. They will contrast your floors nicely.

What are you going to do with the cabinets in the kitchen? Are you keeping them that color or planning on staining them?

The house looks like it is coming out nice though.. Congrats

You skimmed over the thread didn't you?

Half of it was talking about staining the cabinets!:D

BTW, it's fine to leave your front door a different color. If it is painted like wood, that is fine. It is a focal point door and you can certainly get away with a different color there. Everywhere else though, I'd go white..

I did. I just wanted to be sure you hadn't decided against it. If it were me, I would definitely stain the cabinets. And I'd go much darker. I had super light cabinets, tried staining them, actually had someone try and do it and it turned out terrible.

I had to replace all my doors and have someone put stained veneer over the existing boxes. $7,000 later, it looks great.

Hire a cabinet guy specifically if you do stain and go with a mahogany color. That's what I would do. It will look great with the stainless appliances you are planning on getting.

Also, GE Profile are very good, as are LG. I bought LG, but I think I probably could have gotten away much cheaper on the refrigerator...

Ok, everyone says white and we agree, the crown molding will be white.

Can we do some type of pitty raffle to pay for the oven, MW and dishwasher?

I am willing to video tape me throwing my Rotel off the top of the house for 5k.

Home Depot or Lowes. No Interest No Payments... I have another 10k to go on my balance. I send them $1,000 a month... I figure I'll have a nice baloon payment though come August....
