Office speaker setup without subwoofer

Yeah, but he'll get some boundary gain simply from being on a desktop. Your point is worth The Dali's consideration, though. His expectations for dynamic range are probably realistic considering he's specifically after smallish speakers. He could do worse than phils, for sure. Dennis' speakers are smooth as silk.

A friend of mine has the Q Acoustics 3030i mentioned just upthread. They are undoubtedly more bangin than the phils, their bass is strong, but I doubt they're as linear/neutral as the phils.

Sorry, I was unclear in my post: Speakers needs a minimum distance for all the drives to integrate properly, and this distance he should checked out. Small active monitors are likely to achieve this, assuming he sits close in a desktop environment.

And to elaborate… looking for speakers that provide a full listening experience without a sub woofer being required. I don’t need thumping bass, but I don’t want thin sounding speakers. I understand they are bookshelf speakers with 5-6.5 inch mid/woofer limitation, so I won’t be getting deep bass, but just trying to get a full sound.

Oh, got it. Yes, smaller monitors with closely spaced drivers generally have a leg up in that regard. Coaxes sidestep that issue. Which kefs are within his budget?

Vanatoo one encore plus are on sale on Amazon for $580.

I have the Zero plus and they are good for their size.

I still think a true studio monitor is going to give you the best bang for your dollar. $398 for a pair of Kali LP6v2. Output, extension, FR, and ability to EQ them through your PC.

Ok, small room so tough to get a good picture, but this is the basic room. I'd be putting the speakers on the bookshelf to the right, or possible on top of the desk, but aesthetically the bookshelf makes more sense.

eeek! Honestly, with that desk and where it is, you are better with a 2.1 desk system like the ones that are setup for work stations. I would instead direct my resources into another space in the house, or rearrange/refurnish that one. If could at least move that desk centered in the space somewhere would alleviate some of the challenges.

Something like the Harman Soundsticks with the small sub that could probably put away in that cabinet when not in use, and then set on the floor perhaps firing half under that desktop when you want to jam. I know you said no sub and that you already have an amp but there are other ways to use them without them being in the way.

ETA: I would likely use stand mounts elsewhere in the room and aim my chair towards wherever that would be when it mattered. Either way, it seems there is going to have to be more than a convenient set and forget setup. Only reason I mention it is because I have lived in places where I had to treat my system like a semi-portable setup, with moving speakers in and out and rearranging a chair or too. Since I tend to listen for 4 hrs or more, it wasn't a big deal. I could also leave them in play when I had the house to myself on weekends and such.

I just took it for granted that the desktop was more centered in the room and a more common workspace. I know you already had/have a sub satellite system, but that's what ends up being the best bang for the buck and when the left/right speakers need to be small enough to fit on such a desk, instead of trying to cheat bass from small woofers on the satellites.

I always end up rearranging my rooms for audio/acoustics first. I suppose if you have other listening rooms then you don't need to be so picky here. I just would not put much more effort than ambient music in such a space as arranged. Also, considering that I was to be preoccupied with work at the same time, would also lessen the sound quality requirements. I mean, I'd be happy with a stereo pair of JBL flip 6 bluetooth speakers on that desk to work by, which have a surprising amount of bass and sound quite good for what they are.

Again, just looking for good suggestions for a small room for speakers that wouldn't require a subwoofer. I can ALWAYS add one if it is small in stature, but I'd prefer to just run stereo at this time.
