First of a few quad 4 channel slim Behringer EPQ304 4-channel

b2.jpg

1.jpg

Once the 37-D connector arrives I can see if the mating with Dolby CP500 can be used with logarithmic potentiometer works correctly or not if not I'll keep a look out.

2.jpg

New PSU mounted inside the rack and all mains cables will be tied up and kept to one side of the rack away from audio leads to prevent possible 50Hz mains hum being picked up.

A lot of the cables behind soon to be all tided up.

4.jpg

Amps tested but no TRS 1/4" connected yet nor any Sparkon twist cables. The fans are sort of quiet bit produce a certain frequency that is the upper middle Hz to lower Khz range. I'll have to test once they are up and running with TrueRTA to see what the fan noise frequency is?

5.jpg

The quad 4 channel amplifiers will be used for the JBL five screen HF horns and I may use more for the each sidewall/rear wall surrounds and overhead surrounds and use slightly powerful ones for the five screen bass channels.

A third Behringer EPQ304 arrived this morning with Sparkon push and twist connectors and packets of TRS to RCA so I can use the existing RCA cables.

Once all Behringer EPQ304 was in place for the 5 screen HF horns and with all amplifiers running the noise from the fans was bit distracting. I had a look around before opening up. What I found was the tiny fans tend to be bit noisy. These amplifiers maybe for PA use but the fan noise is unacceptable in frequency noise.

The way I see it with most AVR's of the past that hardly used fans inside them and with other amplifiers or pro gear that doesn't use fans. I simply disconnected the fans (the leaf blowers) for silent operation and I doubt they are going to get Red Hot even within few hours. I pre-tested with one switched ON for 10 minute and was reasonable cool.

I have left a small narrow gap between the amplifiers so any raising heat is going to vent though the narrow slots around each amplifier.

Two of them presently connected up for JBL 2371 HF horns for the five-screen channels.

I'll do a check with the 3rd for surrounds to see how it sounds before getting a 4th EPQ304.

The EPQ304 are rated at 75watts that may seem like not a lot but the JBL 2371 are high sensitivity 109db, for a 1watt to reach 109db at 1 meter distance, rated at 50watts and at short distance away in the room I doubt they'd ever see more than 2watts peak nor have they ever when using the other AVR running as an amplifier.

The gain levels are set rather low just two notch turns on the gain levels.

Another Laserdisc player arrived today.

1.jpg

2.jpg

Sooty, black cat approves of Laserdisc.

Second Pioneer DVL-909 that I already have expect this model is for region 3 for its DVD use but can be programmed with the remote control for other DVD regions.

The back panel layout is different that doesn't use SCART just multiples of Video outputs and RCA LR outputs plus the regular digital coaxial, Dolby AC-3 RF output and PCM optical digital output.

4.jpg

5.jpg

I only tested with video lead connected to back of monitor as I haven't got any rack space left in the main two racks. A few Laserdiscs the owner also supplied with it some that I already have others that I don't have.

3.jpg

Ghostbusters (1984) criterion collection looked okay.

The main video player rack I'll move all the players into the kitchen with some new longer HDMI leads for the 4k, bluray, HD-DVD and regular leads for the other players Laserdisc and VHS. I'll use an (IR emitter) so the players functions can be controlled in the THX home cinema.
Rack tray will have to be installed for Laserdisc players VHS at 4U frame size and for the smaller players 4K, bluray, HD-DVD 2U frame size.

JBL 4312 in fair cosmetic condition few minor repairs but in working order, delivered yesterday.

Seller was very nice to travel down from London, (twice) within 48hrs good seller that wants his costumer to listen to the speakers. I didn't include in the pictures JBL 4312A.

48415617_10156732189580149_208439152331456512_n (1).jpg

JBL 4312 left channel stood on a JBL control SB-2 to raise it off the floor.

Not the best pictures I took I was rather cranky and wanted to go to bed so maybe take some more pictures later on when not so cranky.

48415731_10156732298220149_2932351430574473216_n.jpg

I couldn't get the JBL 4312 connected up to test with any of main system so rigged up quickly a one of 2x Marantz 1050 connected long phone 3.5mm to pc computer output with RCA connected to amplifier and used some youtube videos for music and frequency sine wave sweep 20Hz to 20Khz to test each of the two JBL 4312 and JBL 4312A that the seller had for me to listen too to see which one I would like to buy.

The JBL 4312A had a nice bass that I noticed on the frequency sweep and all though the range to middle and high on the titanium diamond tweeter. The only differences no L-Pads for mid/highs and the port wasn't as unique like JBL 4312 that has 45 degree bend that extends longer into the box.

The tweeter on JBL 4312 is paper dome tweeter I can live with that they work.

I may think about using the 3rd Behringer DCX2496 DSP crossover for the JBL 4312 with an extra output on the main rack system with sort of, (A) multi ch home cinema and (B) 2ch stereo speakers, maybe...?

I am at the point now I have to quit buying JBL or anymore speakers OCD as gotten out of control. :D Unless spare parts. One more box soon to arrive from USA, JBL 2206 x5 to replace the JBL G-125 bass mid in the JBL control 12SR.

JBL Control SB-2

Seller was kind enough to travel all way down from London to personally deliver.

These where designed for top corner mounting against three boundary surfaces two wall boundaries and one ceiling boundary that will increase its SPL efficiency.

They all look so new even thou used but look in great cosmetic condition with no chips or dents.

The metal mesh grill is an issue and will be removed due to when tapping on the enclosure it resonates with a "pinging" sound not a big deal to sort out and fit some damping inside as well.

Figuring out where to fit them as rear back room top corners are taken up with JBL 8330 mkII, so very little options for placement.

48408857_10156728067365149_8787699895902404608_n.jpg
101 uses it has I can place it on its side.

48385990_10156728067540149_5646934305411170304_n.jpg

The port slots into the rest of the speaker box and has foam pads on the sides as the rest of the bass sounds travel out from the driver that is a 10" duel voice coil and the baffle acts like a sort of band-pass filtering, maybe not the best to everyone's taste or hearing but, I think I can work with it.

Added new Behringer NX3000 (leaf blowers) but fortunate the amplifier rack is in the kitchen so very litter fan noise is heard and when the door is closed its a nice 30db in the room.

The NX3000 power the JBL five screen bass channels JBL 2206.

x4 mains to transformer LED lighting to be later fitted up. The lumens light level is nice output as I got a bright type.

Fixing screws and wall plugs, lightweight so shouldn't take long to fit up then do the mains wiring from light switch and later on install a variable dimmer control.

Ordered some cable conduct so it can be concealed within the sound treatment tiles. An LED light dimmer and mains lamp cable so should have the lights operational next week.

Drilled small hole enough so mains lamp cable can fit though and will do same with other x3.

One light box panel fitted up and I only need to cut back the sound treatment foam.
