Should I do 5.1.2 or 7.1.4 setup in this Complex Room and where should I place the speakers

What setup will be better in this room. Where should I place the speakers.

Speakers I plan to use are KEF Q6 Metas for Bed layer and KEF Q3 Metas for Atmos. And 2x Dayton DIY Subs.

Main seating are is where the 3 chairs are next to the Center Table. Towards the right is the Sofa. And to the Left is a single Bed. And behind the bed is open in-wall cabinet sits flush with the wall. With uneven shelving. Same there is another cabinet behind the dining table which protrudes out 6". The two Windows will have Curtains.

What to do in this space. What will work Best.

You are bound to get members recommending a 2.1 or 2.2 setup for that room. A couple of KEF towers and 1 or 2 subwoofers as needed. Less speakers means more money for better front speakers.

I don't see any proper locations for side or rear surrounds. Especially for a speaker as large as the Q6. Only place I see room for side surrounds is slightly in front of the 3 chairs, between the front 5'6" doorway and 3' doorway on the right, and close to the corner of the wall above the bed on the left. That is not ideal as the side surrounds should be slightly behind the seating position. I would not try and do 7.1.4 in that space. It's just not set up for it.

Whether you will benefit from 2 or 4 ATMOS speakers is hard to say. You need to have a good bed layer before adding ATMOS and the room is not well suited for even 5.1.2. Adding ceiling speakers will get you overhead effects but with limited speaker placement options I think you will have a difficult challenge getting true Dolby surround effects.

Yeah seriously. I know it is hard to place speaker in proper position in this room. But seriously seems like I be stuck in this place for few more years. So at this point I want to get Atmos Setup done here. Not limiting to 2ch setup. And seriously as you can see I cannot place tower speakers there. Only Wall mounted speakers on Front. And even surrounds. No tower speakers. There is not enough space between the wall and the bed to fit one.

I can see the three Q6 on the front wall but the challenge is the side surrounds. The one over the bed is probably ok but the one over the couch/sofa could be an issue as the Q6 is fairly deep. The Q4 Meta is an on-wall speaker that is quite shallow. Q8 Meta might be an option as well since it is a height speaker and can be mounted higher on the wall pointing down at the main listening position.

At first I was thinking that, given the difficulty even placing sides/rears that 5.1.2 would be the clear answer. Looking at it some more though, I think that 7.1.2 or 7.1.4 would actually give you a better "bubble". You're rear surrounds will be mismatched, but if you run room correction/level matching it should be fine.

The "2"s are for atmos in a .2 setup and the "4"s are if you went with the .4

Again, not ideal but it can work ok without being "perfect" if you leverage software. And I do think that the flawed 7 channel bed will give a better surround effect than the flawed 5 channel given your mounting location options.

The sub I would probably place under the TV on one side of the center. Unless you can find a sufficient smaller one that will fit within the 1' space beside the couch.

Yeah Q6 being that deep is my concern as well. Even over the bed I am bit worried that some day some one sleeping there will wake up and bump into it while trying to getup. Even on Sofa side lets say we push to corner so that it comes up over the armrest. Still good possibility of bumping into it.

Yeah seriously my only concern is people bumping into speakers while getting up from bed and sofa. That is my concern. Hmmmmmm.........

Yes Atmos are easy to be placed. Lot of space and options on top. No issue.

Subs I think one will go below the TV in front. And one next to refrigerator at the back. That should give decent coverage in the room.

Yeah the more I think of it 7.2.4 setup seems to be less of a compromise in regards to speaker placement for how it is expected to work. But still the side surrounds placement is my issue. Not sure how to deal with it. All are Concrete Walls so I cannot even do In-Wall speakers. Or would have opted for in-wall.

Mounting them a little higher than ear level to get them up out of the bump range isn't going to be the end of the world. I'm assuming these are not huge speakers if they are wall-mount-able.

KEF Q6 Meta is 8.3" x 24.8" x 11.9"(HxWxD) Not too huge. But not small either. I say Mid-sized.

Q4 and Q8 are designed to be mounted on the wall. Q6 needs a stand or shelf (no rear mounting hardware). You can use square channel or a cable raceway to run wires up the walls for a cleaner look.

I did listen to Q4 previously man. And it sounded even bit worse than Q1. Not sure why it is designed the way it is but it doesn't feel right to be part of the Q Meta lineup. It doesn't sound as full and rich. Neither is as detailed. I mean Q1 is more detailed than Q4. I think its port design is cause of the issue. I get that it is comprised to fit into that think form factor. But seriously I would not get that speaker. Q8 I have not heard.

I am familiar with making a space like that work. I moved around a TON while in the Navy and at one time, lived in a 350 sf space!
What we did (yes we. The wife was somehow okay with it):
1. Got a queen sized Dillon wall hugger futon
2. Ditched the tables/chairs for tv side tables
3. Bought a Denon AVR X-4700H "open box" from Crutchfield
4. Bought Goldenear Supercinema 3D XL soundbar with one of their Supersub Xs. Astonishing ability to simulate rear/surrounds and they made a great pairing that sounded very good for the compromise I made. Still have them in the bedroom now.

The futon wasn't cheap and the mattress was very comfortable so the wife was happy. Atmos isn't necessarily "better" and often really just "more".

Sadly that is not possible for us. We need to have that Single Bed, Sofa etc. Because Guests regularly visit our house. And Grandma comes stay at out house from time to time. So she sleeps there. And Guests sit in Sofa. So those cannot be removed. Same with the Dining table.

This one is actually about your own house?
Yes this one is for me. I moved to my Home-town for some time. And seems like we(me and my parents) be stuck here for a long time(years to come). So I decided to get this setup done for ME.

Two good speakers always best more lesser speakers. My view is that it takes a virtually perfect room to benefit from more speakers. a 7.2.4 room a 3.1 room and a 2.2 room and would be very happy with either room. A good 2 or 2.1 with really good speakers will always best a room with more lesser speakers.

Nah man. I seriously miss my Surround Setup at home. I want to get that experience here as well. I literally stopped watching Movies since we moved here. And now knowing that we will have to stay here for a long time I want to get the setup done.

This is the most accurate out of all posts here.
Can't have Main Listening Position that forward. That would block walking path around the table and make it hard for anyone sitting in sofa or bed to move around. Very inconvenient.

Edit: also not going to remove the Bed, as when Grandmother visits she sleeps there. So that stays. So is the case with the Sofa. When guests visit they sit there.
