Aura ATS-2B-04
(3rd one)

Check/testing that its in a working order with basic music at first then I shall move on more serious testing with the sound generator (low frequency sine wave tones) and maybe think about positioning them to the first row seating as I'm looking at few angles on the seating that could easily have flat metal plate going between the seats but would need thorough testing that the most vibration is generated into the seats with as little voltage though its operating range as poorly placed with over-driving it can lead to wear and tear of the unit its not my opinion its my belief, that I would like these little shakers last many years, without failure.

Within some of the back row seats I have little Dayton Pucks, that would be replaced with x3 more Aura for back row seating.

These have been redone with rubber surrounds. Checked them out earlier today working fine with wide-band pink noise. I'll have these fitted up to the ceiling when I get around to it.

x6 JBL control 5 on the ceiling now. The remaining JBL control 1 I'll use for an additional matrix below surround extension to expand on the existing x4 at floor level underneath the seats.

OH1.jpg

Drilled a hole into the control 5 so that the screws will fit though and into the wall-plug in the ceiling.

OH2.jpg

Used a cable tie so I can tie and pull it though the hole in the wall. The cheap ebay grade speaker cable 100 meters no bad for cheaper than fish n' chips price and not even used the second reel yet.

OH3.jpg

OH4.jpg

OH5.jpg

OH6.jpg

Rewired the previous top height 1 L R that used to be above the first row seats and moved it forward 2 feet away from the front.

The middle height overhead I have used a matrix signal from the sidewall stereo surrounds and placed a rear matrix that would commonly be rear of the decoder to simply give a presence of atmosphere.

The top height 2 rear surrounds still in their current placement unchanged.

I'll get a cheap Onkyo with PLIIz and wire that AVR so the side stereo surround signal is sent into one of LR inputs then set the AVR to PLIIz mode and see what it can decode.

OH7.jpg

I'll get around to tiding up the cables later.

An even x100 JBL and tactile bass seat shakers now in use and more to come.

Started on fitting up the acoustical wedge treatment tiles to the ceiling a few at a time or least the first row as the adhesive smells and takes a day so before it clears so I'll do the next row tomorrow, plus going to need another box with same bass traps and not even started fitting in the bass traps yet. The room is slowly transforming from reflective to a mellow absorbent treated room for listening to films and music.

8 and half wedge tiles across the rooms ceiling width.

About little over 15 minutes to fit first row tiles up. The tile has to be sprayed then I have to stand on something so I can reach the ceiling. After that I need to cool down as sweating a bit as I don't like standing on things where my feet are not really touching the ground. I don't like heights.

After standing up near to the ceiling talking to myself so I can hear what it sounds like. Oh, yeah its making lot of difference so thought I fit some more up then take a break then do some more. Another box is ordered should be here tomorrow as usually last few boxes ordered arrived next day.

I have to cut some tiles so they fit around the JBL control 5's.

Panels over the windows unscrew so had to open to let some air in least let the glue spread vent a bit faster but depends on the wind direction but its venting slowly.

I think I leave it for a day so until the other box arrives and going to need another box to finish the back part of the ceiling and another to finish off around few lower corners on the walls.

46473995_10156647848705149_5125970985907912704_n.jpg

Clapping my hands I can only hear few bare surfaces in the room that soon will be fully treated.

I also noticed the light level is changing with single LED light so think about some of these cheap flat panel LED lights that demand low power and figure away of fitting some evenly around the room.

Gradually I will have to re-tune EQ the room a little bit due to the change with room treatment.

I figured out how to hide the speaker cables on the ceiling the tiles glued to the ceiling will hide them.

First 1/3 of the room ceiling done. I should finish the half of the ceiling later in the day but will need to order another box to finish the back part of the ceiling and few around the sidewalls and another box again to finish off the walls.

Between gluing up more acoustical tiles last night while watching few movies on amazon prime, North by Northwest 5.1 and All the Presidents Men, Watergate scandal in 1.0 or MONO you can't beat that sound format its so immersive in storytelling.

The room slowly, slowly transforming from reflective to sound treated.

Looking at ideas of how I'm going to go about covering the wedge tiles on the ceiling. I could have done this few ways with rockwool stuck to the ceiling with a little itching or wedge foam tiles which is the approach I have taken but next is covering it over so only a flat surface is viable with evenly spaced flat LED lights screwed up.

I googled in few dozen keywords looking at images only to see if there was any inspiration ideas I came across this https://www.popcornceilingsolution.com/install-stretch-fabric-ceiling/one after reading throw it quickly (Acoustic fabric and micro-perforated acoustic PVC membrane) thou something tells me its going to be pricey. So looks like the old-fashion way of common fabric some way of fitting a fixture up and stapling the fabric up? Unless this micro-perforated acoustic PVC membrane is cheap.

I could use Spandex (black) as it stretches little extra distance so I'd only need so much of it and its cheap as well and acoustically transparent.

Its pixel shifter 4k and for the entry budget its okay.
I not side by side tested with the Hitachi projector that is some 18 so years old and only supports up to 1080i or 720p and doesn't have HDMI or HDMI 2.0.

The Hitachi has maybe 2 thousand hours lamp time in eco mode and less at full power. Not used in few years as its not really compatible with 1080p or 4k soon to be  with 8k then 10k and 15k I guess.

A few adjustments to the screen with maybe some masking above the screen as the front overhead surrounds are casting a shadow on the part of the screen above the frame 16:9. A 2.35:1 aspect ratio is available and 4:3 academy ratio .

46485760_10156659131660149_6731867864996773888_n.jpg

Magic was curious about the large image.

I have acoustical transparent spandex white sheet I have that can be fitted up onto a wooden frame.

The bed sheet which has been hung up for some years is also acoustically transparent but the light level on it is shade less of brightness. In fact bed sheets used to be used in cinemas before the days of the 1950's plastic perforated screens.

46519672_10156659133505149_2746355801646956544_n.jpg

The remote control has a back-lighting which I have found easy to use. The remote control IR easily reaches the projectors IR sensor when pointing it behind at the projection port hole.

Projectors fan is quiet on eco mode far quieter than the Hitachi when it was on eco mode. I can barely hear I can feel the heat being vented from the side of the side of the projector. I have to test later with SPL meter and get an RTA reading to see what the frequency is? Even thou the projector is behind the wall in the kitchen makes it even more isolated.

46510778_10156659135250149_4154370141406101504_n.jpg

Its bit of cheat I used the ISO level on the DLSR camera to lower some of the brightness increase with HDR but the HDR seems more better on a projector unless I'm overlooking something?

46501843_10156659135405149_2968097425471832064_n.jpg

Colour picture out of the box and switched on menu shows up asking to select language English and then selecting the source input HDMI 1 (2.0) the colour settings seem to be in default mode which looks okay. The HDR on the player improves contrast range.

46495678_10156659134025149_3410133239078060032_n.jpg

With 4K monitor on shows the size increase. I like to get the screen width possible wall to wall.

46510368_10156659132040149_646125212038856704_n.jpg

A simple square test card is featured on the projector and remote control under PATTERN. The screen not perfect yet it is a bed sheet.

Camera mode set at H with a possibly steady hand as usually it would be a tripod shot due to exposure time. Contrast on the screen is overblown but due to I think its the aperture as I'm still getting used to the DLSR camera. Even with my Hitachi projector I was aware of the shadow casting as the port hole I should have calculated 2" lower but I can tilt the projector and use its keystone adjustment which doesn't bother me too much but there it is. The top of the screen I can mask above and below.

The room is purposely dark so no outside light other than the LED light in the room can get on the screen.

Camera mode set at normal Auto mode with light level lowered it makes the room lot darker and some of the shadow images on the screen appear darker.

46485955_10156659365840149_65711247282143232_n.jpg

DLSR set to flash mode with ISO set at 1600 with light level on camera lowered to capture the room and image on the bed sheet.
