Harman Kardon AVR-7300 A/V Receiver.

Some of you might be familiar with the Harman Kardon AVR-7300 A/V Receiver, from 2004.

Check it out -> http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/harmankardon_avr7300_1.shtml
--> There are 3 pages.

Pretty impressive isn't? :)

*** Check that nice lighted blue ring inside the Volume knob. Ouhhh... Nice. ;)
About that massive toroidal transformer. Ahhh... Huge. ;)
And those two big block capacitors, rated at 38,000uF each! Heee... Splendid. ;)
Total net weight is 28.6kg! That's 63 pounds! Ohhh... Heavy. ;)

Where's everybody???
Listening to music on our high end woopty-doo razzamatazz, rootin' tootin' sound systems. Got no time for oggling capacitors.

Like, what you guys think so far about these reviews and pictures
from that German site "Area DVD"?
Well, I can't say much, because I don't read Deutsche. But if I did, and if I didn't read English, I'd be really annoyed if I bought some fancy receiver and the setup was only in English. But that's just me; too busy listening to music to learn another language. Or maybe too lazy? ;-)

What is your interest Peter?

^ Well Peter, it all sounds good (busy listening Music & watching Movies), but if you're here, it means that you must have some more intelligent and more elaborate impressions!

And I don't read Deutsche neither, but I can make up a bit of it, after all, it's about audio/video; plus the pictures are great, a very good look at the guts.
Pictures are worth a thousand words.

At least, do you have any suggestions that might be of higher interest for you?
That's what I'm trying to do here, get people interested. So if you have some ideas about how can this thread be improve, I'm all ears.

Regards,

Bob

Here in North America, the unit itself weighs 55 lbs, shipping weight is 69.3 lbs, slightly heavier than the Onkyo 805/875.

http://manuals.harman.com/HK/HOM/Owner's Manual/AVR 7300 OM FINAL rev 6-3-04.pdf

The German version could be different but if anything I expect it to be a bit lighter due to the higher voltage, hence lower current on the primary side; and that may lead to a slightly lighter transformer. Sorry Bob, but I am pointing this out to you out of respect just so you won't feel too ashame of your only marginally lighter Onkyos that you are so proud and fond of.:D

Hey, this is great Peng. I'm all for that (facts from around the globe). :)

The German review does in fact in it's specs put the AVR-7003 at 28.6 kg (63 lbs), which you could clearly see.

And the manual that you provided does also in fact puts it at 55 lbs.

The AVR 7200 (previous model) was listed at 53 lbs net (USA model).

So, perhaps the AVR 7003 UK model is heavier? I just mentioned what I saw.
And that toroidal transformer does look HUGE. I think it is rated at 1.5 KVA.
(Total power consumption is rated at 1,360 watts, from the USA/Canada manual).

* I'll do more searching...

Thanks for that link with a clear precision; that's what I like. :)

Regards,

Bob

Big Trouble from my Onkyo TX-SR876!!!

Oh, I almost forgot. Talking about my Onkyo Receivers that I'm so proud of.

Guess what? Last night, I was watching a weird and very rare movie (at pretty high volume, I should admit), when suddenly my Onkyo TX-SR876 just made an horrible noise follow by a flash of red, blue and white light light inside, and then light brown smoke coming out!!! And to top it all out, my TV went into total darkness, completely black! No use to say that now, and my Receiver and my TV are inoperative (caput!).

So now, I'm totally lost at what happens!
I am now absolutely beset by this, and don't know what to do, so much I am perturb by this evil occurance.

Any thoughts???

I hope your TV went black only because it was hooked up to the HDMI out of the 876 and the flash over inside the 876 caused the power supply fuse to blow so your HDMI output no longer works. By now you should have tried connecting you TV directly to you BD player and if it works then the TV is not affected by the mishap. Anyway sorry to hear that and I wish you luck in getting it fixed on warranty. Good thing you have more than one receiver so why waiting for the fix you can still enjoy your movies.

Yeah, thanks Peng. I already called Onkyo this morning, but could not get through!

And I did recheck my TV, and it seems to be fine now. I also brought my other Receiver from downstair, the 805, and connected it to my system upstairs.
Now, everything is working back to normal. Thank, my God! I'm not out on a limb.
But my 876 is totally fry. I opened the top, and everything is cooked, black and smelly!
What a drag, just for watching a dam movie!

For $2200?

C'mon.

Does it also play SACD & DVD-A?

Does it also play HD DVDs?

Just get a $600 desktop w/ HDMI & BD/HD DVD ROM + TMT3 Platinum.:D
My blu-ray cost like 300 bucks and I can even play games on it. :)

Did you simply read the review? :rolleyes: Instead of asking the Master Lord. :D

About for people with a high end projector? Or for people that likes their equipment to match their Pioneer Elite KURO plasma TV? And for those that wants the ultimate audio and video quality, and solidity of build?
Or for people that demands the Elite prestige? ;)

Must be a sign to switch to HK :p
Isiberian, you're already there, might is well just keep going the same boring path. :D

Your cost is not someone else cost. Your cost is the cost from the low class. :rolleyes:
The mass-market cost. ;) (Just like me. :eek: )

The PS3 is the awesome upgradable Blu-ray machine. The only thing it lacks is multi-format playback for SACD, DVD-Audio, and HD DVD. It's received firmware updates to improve it's upscaling abilities for example, which is more than be said of any stand alone.

A nice thin display to mate with your black A/V Receiver.

About a very nice thin LCD display to match the burgundy color of your speakers and furniture, plus your Onkyo or Marantz A/V Receiver?
Or your Pionner Elite, or even your Denon A/V Receiver? Or perhaps your Yamaha? And, of course, they'll match better in the black color model ones.
* And as for Isiberian Harman Kardon receiver, it will definitively not match at all. :D

Pretty nice? :cool:

I just found out the cause of my grievance.

Some of you might remember from just about 10 posts ago, when I was mentioning the recent pass away of my Onkyo TX-SR876.
Yes, it terminated itself (self-destructed) by some stange force of the irreality.
It is totally toasted (overcooked, overdone, extinguished, caput...). :(

I'm not mad, not at all, I'm just overly at the edge of insanity. :eek:

Anyway, I just found out this last few hours, what caused this very strange thing to happen.
Well, what do you know, remember when I was saying that this happened during the playing of a very weird and rare movie on DVD?
Guess which movie it was? You'll never guess, because it is a movie that is banned, not supposed to exist for some reason.
Well, you know me, when something inaccesssible presents itself, I just had to get my hands on it.
Get this, the title of that movie is: "Satan's Sphinx"!

* If you want to know more about this "Banned" movie, check out this thread:

-> http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56728/

It goes without saying that I could not watch that movie, as the "destruction" happened right at the beginning of the very first scene!
