I have to go with a flat black for the mains and I like cherry for the center. To me me it just makes them stand out from each other. It just kind of catches the eye.

I like cherry and piano black. I could also see a light colored speaker looking very classy in the right environment. It mostly depends on the other surroundings in the room.

Contest Question: What is your favorite finish on a loudspeaker and why?

I may be in the minority, but I much prefer a good wood stain to black paint, or alternatively a good vineer. Nothing beats the look of natural wood. A walnut or cherry stain works well with most furnishings.

I like a wood grain finish...something dark that matches my brown leather couch. A nice dark cherry I think. Second to that would be black, but I wouldn't go with glossy....leaves fingerprints.

I, too, like the gloss black because it can fit almost in any room but I also like an oak finish to have the look of a wood grain.

I prefer the wood grains; although, the shadow-maple on these speakers really catches my eye.

I love a nice cherry finish. Something dark with a little hint of red. Basic black is always slimming, but it doesn't really make people (i.e. women) look at the speakers and say, wow, those are really nice. I think the finish on the box definitely reflects to people how much you may or may not have paid for your system. Not that price should matter, quality of the sound is what's important.

I'm not fussy on color, as long as it is not white. My wife like things like telephones, and other electronics to be white, which I hate.

What is your favorite finish on a loudspeaker and why?

Birch. I like the dull white look in a speaker.

lol

Gloss black. It's more elegant looking, and easier to match other furnature.

Dark wood finishes or piano black. The woods look very elegant and seamless in a room with matching wood finishes. The black goes great with anything.

Satin Rosewood as it would match my wood floors. I'd take Satin Black next as most of the wood items are dark so the Maple wouldn't work for me.

I like a nice wood finish. All-black speakers make me think "$30 Sony", as really cheap speakers are almost always black. Plus you have to dust black things twice as often as any other color. Dark woods (Walnut, Macassar, etc) are almost as bad, plus being really dark makes them look really small.

Light woods are a little better, but if they're too-white, then they look sun-bleached. Quasi-light to medium woods are good. (say: light oak -through- a dark cherry).

Black Attack

Black. Piano Black. Gloss Black. Flat Black. See a trend. :D

It's the most "neutral" choice. Black goes with everything.

The woody colours (light or dark wood, etc) don't go with every decor. If it is supposed to look like solid wood it better be solid. Then painted black. Plus the lighter colours stick out more when the lights are turned down during a movie session. I like to keep everything incognito and only want the picture to hold my attention.

I know. Personal preference. Each to their own.

Long live the Black.
