It seems we all have nice wives..... :)

With those results we all seem to have really tolerant wives. Thank God we don't need a high WAF. That makes purchasing a lot easier.

A nice solid thump or detailed bass during a crash scene makes all the difference in a good set-up. Mushy wet LF's are annoying and get on the nerves. I want to feel my stomach and furniture, when the SFX are played.

In contrast to the front, rear and center speaker, it's easy to hide a sub somewher, so I don't really care what it looks like. I'm not sure I need a new coffee table. Although, Im curious if in Jurassic Park, my drink would also show little ripples when those nasty dinos come by, if I rested it on a sub that looked like a piece of designer furniture.

Power? Who cares how much power you have if it sounds like s#!?.

Quality and accuracy of LFE playback big time. I don't see it as an option but I am intrigued by the auto-calibration many AV products are starting to have. I have yet to read how well the few subs that have one work.

I have to say, in my world, if it doesn't pass WAF then it is a no go. My UFW-10 is wonderful, but it also doesn't bug the wife. :(

Is there really anything other than...

accuracy in the presentation of anything? Clean, clear reproduction far outweighs crap.

I laugh everytime a young buck goes by me with his stereo booming away and all I can hear is the license plate buzzing. How can that be music? It is merely noise. I like music.

Quality and Accuracy of LFE Playback

I simply want my sub to sound as close to what the engineer intended as it can. Plain and simple. Or is it?:D

Deep extension as well as accuracy are my only concerns. A smooth presence makes the difference to me--I like to feel and hear the bass, but not necessarily an "in your face" distraction. Thats one thing I particularly notice when I hear cheap, high SPL subs doing whenever I listen to material that has lots of LFE info.

Id definitly say its the reproduction of the bass that is the most imporatnt. The most important part would be the tightness and accuracy of it

What features are most important in a home theater subwoofer?

Definitely quality and accuracy of LFE playback. Good clean bass and lots of it. Ability to be played at high volumes while maintaining the same level of accuracy.

I first look for clean, accurate bass in chosing a sub. I want one that is good for both music and home theater. I also like one with enough output and extension to rattle the walls a bit so you can really feel what the sub is doing.

I want the most accurate sound possible up to thx standard when shopping for a sub which I desperately need

From my perspective, the bass must extend downward as low as possible, be reproduced in a tight, accurate fashion with the absolute minimum of distortion, and achieve the high output levels necessary to reproduce the accurate, powerful bass that music and movies require.

deep accurate bas

I want a sub that will part your hair but be true to the music and not sound like as mike anthony bass player from van halen says like a wet fart

for my needs accuracy & looks are the most important issues to be looked at in a subwoofer.

anything that is in my living area must look great so even if its the most accurate sub on earth if it looks like a tird then i wont own it.

I like something that is crisp and booms. A sub has to let you be PART of the movie that you are watching. It isn't a sub unless you feel the explosion in the movie, or the rumbling of the thunder. It allows you to feel like the movie is truely alive in the room with you. While this is important, it needs to be accurate and clean with no distortion. All in all, the accuracy of LFE is what truely makes a sub a sub.

Plus my sub just got fried. I need a new one!! :(

I want tight, accurate, and musical bass which enhances both the music and the movie experience.

Lots of little adjustments

Home theater in my house is the den, and is as much my wife's as mine. In my case, size and aesthetics are very important to keep family harmony.
Secondly, for a home theater, I'm not sure what accuracy really means since what most folks want is the thrill of special effects audio. I've never been in a submarine or a space ship coming off hyper drive so I'm not sure if those low frequencies being reproduced are accurate or not - but I can tell if the subwoofer is in distress. So my second vote is for extension.

Guess I'm not qualifed to be an audio or videophile, eh?

Quality and accuracy are essential. Isn't that what this whole hobby is about? Striving for realism?

Personally, I am a fan of Def Tech speakers. I love the enormous amount of accurate bass produced by my towers. I also love the fact that the subs are integrated into the design, and do not require the placement of a separate sub in the room. This saves space and improves the room's aesthetics.
