What features are most important in a home theater subwoofer?

A few factors take into place when im buying a HT sub. Aside from the obvious, price/size, I would have to say the flexability of connection; speaker line level and rca are a must so it can fit into various installs. Also a good xover. Asthetics does play a role in my choice of subwoofer too. I like to show off my gear and when people look at my stuff I want it to be just as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the ears:DAnd ofcourse if the sound is not onpar with its looks..well then we know the answer to that..

LFE Accuracy, Frequency Range, & Value!

The most vital features a home theater subwoofer must contain are quality material components and craftsmanship and perfomance engineering to not only produce a powerful low frequency response, but to reach below 40Hz closer to 20Hz (the lowest audible sound heard by humans) for the full home theater experience of explosions and special effects to come alive!!!
The perfect subwoofer will have a variable phase to integrate acoustical integration with existing speakers, and also level and crossover adjustment controls putting the listener in the driver's seat, allowing them to customize the bass output signal to audible perfection according to their listening preferences. The ideal subwoofer, in addition, will have an automatic single-band equalizer to offer a clean balance to the incoming LFE signal and deliver a bass impact that's beyond restraint with adrenaline-rushing sound.
These exceptional features must also be affordable as individually purchasing home theater equipment can often be an expensive venture, so overall value plays an important role in carefully selecting that perfect subwoofer to amplify your experience with dramatic, intense low frequency power!

Accuracy

I am most interested in an accurate playback. Deep and loud are a plus, but if its all over the place its not worth a dime. hanks for the chance to win.

Tight, clean, articulate bass is what it's all about. Thumpy, lumpy, and bumpy bass is for small cars driven by teenagers.

Deep, clean, powerful, accurate bass that interacts well in my room. That is the most important thing to me.

I value a sub that goes low, stays clean, and has uniform output across its intended frequency range (by that I mean, no "One Note" subs).

LFE Playback

I'm surprised that given these choices that anyone who is or aspires to be an Audiophile would choose anything other than Quality and Accuracy of LFE Playback.

Tight, accurate sound with good extension to hit those low frequencies.

a good subwoofer should deliver accurate and clean bass, not overpowering for the sake of loudness, but as clean a reproduction of the original sound as is possible.

I think a combination of Quality and Accuracy of LFE Playback and maximum extension are important to home theater subwoofers.

Thanks,

I would have to say quality and accuracy of sound. A sub has to be almost transparent and not really noticable, but definately there when a low passage is needed.
I am not familiar with the av123 brand, but if they are looking for ideas, I say stear toward accuracy. Yes the "wow" factor is what all of us enjoy, but an "in your face" sub gets tiring very soon.
I remember the first time I heard a sub, oh back around 1974 or 5 and I always remember saying that that is the way to go. So after 20 some odd years later, I retired my Advent utilities and finally got a sub.
I don't know if I am just getting old, but I actually prefer very little bass during normal operation, but when it's needed, oh boy, does she make the house shake.

your poll results are being influenced by the question your asking.

i propose you've either worded the poll incorrectly (if your goal is market research), or you've worded the poll this way on purpose because it is being used as a marketing tool.

the reason i say this is that if you do not pick quality and accuracy as your answer, then your saying quality and accuracy are not important!

a simple way to fix this is to have people pick their first and second choices.

alteratively, you could take poll that is price point specific...at a given price point, what features are expected. at a higher price point, what addidtionall feature would you expect...

withuout a price point, the poll is somewhat meaningless..

oh well, i'm pretty sure this won't make me the winner of this contest.
