Listen

Yes most definitly price is the final frontier when purchasing audio and video equipment.
But for me listening to a product is Number 1. Receivers, and especially speakers are at the top of the audio list. What can that receiver really do? How much can I push those speakers. Not to mention what kind of cables are being used when I listen to these products? Do I intend to update my cables to the quality that I am listeng to now? What kind of ascoustic environment am I listen in compared to the one I will be in at home?

I chose ability to hear product in my own system. What's the point of a home theater system for the average enthusiast other than to achieve high-quality sound? That's certainly my approach- and there's no way a product can be finely tuned to meet my specs in a store, much less over the internet.

Well, I clicked "Availability of discounts/coupons." I guess I'm a sucker for getting a deal. I research stuff, and look online, and go listen to products. But really, nothing will make me get the plastic out like gear going on sale! Gear that I've already researched, that is!

For me it is a tie between sticker price and availability of discounts. I am sure that for most people, Home Theater/Home Audio is not a necessity, and that scraping together some funds to get good equipment can be difficult.

Sticker Price: Just finishing grad school and with limited resources. I like to think I would buy the best I can afford, but *best* is subjective. I normally use peer reviews as a benchmark in juding speakers because I haven't heard a lot of them.

It seems "you get what you pay for" dosen't always hold true in the audio world. But unless your aware of the exceptions to this rule, its a good "rule of thumb" to follow.

Purchase Decision Factors

I rated price as most important because I look for the most bang for the buck and for something that still meets my needs. In subwoofers the bass extension, size of the room and the SPL I wish to achieve are the driving factors determining my selection, and the price is pretty much the price of units under consideration. I narrow the selection down to a few units and read everything I can about them, then make a decision. Internet shopping seems to be the way to go for best bang for the buck, so I do not expect to actually hear the unit I select before purchase. That is why reading reviews and formums is such a great research tool.

I chose price because I don't have a bottomless pit of money. Usually try to buy mid-upper quality and try to future proof the investment. (as if that were possible)

Discounts/coupons vs local support will influence where I buy, not what I buy.

Price is my prime factor because if it is out of my price range I will not look at the product. I look at all the competing products in a given price range and research the internet reviews and columns to determine best value option.

I voted other since all options factor in to some degree. If I had to choose one, it would have to be quality to price ratio aka "best bang for buck".

Although we are all concerned with price there are other things that are IMHO more important. Sure, we all have an "X" amount of dollars we can spend on this or that BUT what happens after the sale??? What if, for example, the product(s) does not work as it was designed to?? Personally, I prefer to buy from someone who is there to back up what they sell. Be there if something goes wrong and to reassure me they make a good quality product at a very competative price. Top notch customer support will bring back more customers and thus will result in more referrals. Company "image" in the real world per se is everything. Sooner or later the truth about a company will come out and the successes will depend on how you as a company treat your customers.

Since I am new to all of this, being able to hear a speaker is most important to me.

Price vs best prodcut offering is what I try and balance. For my svs16plus it sort of reversed the svs offer perfomance on par or better than more expensive subs.

Others opinions...

While price is a critical factor, even more so are the opinions of other consumers like me. That's the main reason I enjoy this forum so much is because it gives me a chance to hear what others think about items that I'm thinking of buying.

With HT technology changing all the time and there being 100s of brands to choose from, one person along could never make an informed decision. The opinions of others that know the same or more about HT than I do really help!

I would have to say price is the MOST important because if I can't afford it, I can't purchase it. I buy the best I can afford.

Being able to hear the product is important and of the choices listed, that got my vote. However, the most important factor to me is actually the sound. Everything comes after that. In other words, a low price won't make me buy something that I don't think sounds good.

all of the criteria are important. I like to buy things on the internet and so being able to evaluate the products first hand is a must.

I chose other because I just want to win the 20% off. So I can get my husband the best 11 year anniversary gift, that he has been wanting for ever. A SVS PB 12+2.

It is important to buy quality products that are reasonably priced. I hate paying for overpriced merchandise. When I bought my home theater setup I ended up going to an authorized dealer for Sony, Denon and PSB and got an excellent price for my system.

Sony KDS-R60XBR1
Denon AVR 3806
Denon 1920
PSB speakers T55, C60 and B25

Price and reviews on this forum and may others does it for me. Being in Canada and doing alot of U.S. shopping (greater variety of goods) plus the exchange rate and taxes, you have to save where you can.
