With 3 kids in college, sticker price trumps the other listed criteria at this point in my life.

Price is important but it's not the only thing that count in the final decision. IMO all of the choices comes in line when you are ready to buy.

Price/performance, but mainly price sets what product I'm looking at in the first place. I have a max budget.

For me performance is the biggest factor. Whatever piece of gear I'm looking at, I want it solve an issue in my system and make it better. That being said, then I buy the best solution I can afford, or wait until I have the cash to get what I want and need.

I am a man on a budget. Sure I want the most performance I can get but when it comes down to it the decision is made by what I have to fork out. So discounts and coupons would sway my opinion alot but without those sticker price vs. performance is the leading decision maker.

Speaker factors

The speaker price or price to performance ratio is an important factor in my speaker upgrade decisions. You can find plenty of speakers at BB and CC that are cheap. However, there are other companies making inexpensive speakers that are a good value. The new bookshelf offerings from SVS and AV123 are good examples of this.
If the companies offers good customer service and a trial period, then that negates my concerns about hearing the speaker before buying it.

For the poverty enslaved....value/cost must be pre-eminent.

Value is one of the biggest things I look for. I don't mind paying more for a product but I better GET more when I do. Aside from that I really like to hear a speaker before I make the decision, though most direct to consumer internet shops offer a 30 day in home trial. The in home trial is the absolute best way to listen to a prospective speaker, and local retailers are spotty at best at offering this.

Price matters most. Of course, if the product is not worth owning, I don't want it no matter how inexpensive it is. I have been thinking about buying something from SVS, but right now I am wanting to buy a house, and money is tight. The 20% off might be just enough to get me to go against my better judgment and buy a subwoofer while I am trying to save for a house.

Sticker price is the main factor.

As many have already stated, all are important, but I went with sticker price because that's usually the one factor already decided before research begins, and budget is almost always the second decision made (the decision to buy at all being the first).

Also, each factor listed has the potential to affect any other. For instance, you may be willing to go slightly above your budgeted price if the product is outstanding in any other category. A free professional in-home calibration is worth an extra few bills, isn't it?

That said, no one factor can have more of an effect on the decision than sticker price. There will always be those with unlimited funds but for those of us in the real world, it's all about the $$$.

Everything else in the poll is important, but honestly, sticker price is the most important thing. If I can't afford the thing, then it doesn't matter how great it sounds, or how pretty it is (for the girlfriend), cos I won't be owning it. I don't mind saving up for something that's on my absolutely-gotta-have list, of course. But I ain't made of money. So it's always gonna be "best bang for the buck" for this poor kid.

I think the best way to get me to pull the trigger on something is to offer me a 20% coupon for it. Just thought that might help. ;)

cheers,
supervij

I tend to go for bang for the buck. It is always nice to be able to hear/watch components first, but with the wealth of info on the web in terms of reviews and opinions it is pretty easy to narrow a search pretty quick.

I think in the end, sticker price can be a factor if the final two are close in every other aspect. I prefer to be able to call or take my speakers somewhere close if there are warranty issues. I like the fact that I can call Axiom, which I have done and they have been helpful. In the event of warranty problems they have a dropoff center about an hour from myhouse, which is great.

Sub criteria

I'd love to hear the product b-4 purchasing, but as the selection in my area is limited, I look to recco's from groups like this. Also, the look/finish becomes important if 2 subs are close

For me, quality is key. For this reason, I am willing to pay extra money for a high quality item. Testing the quality of audio-related products almost requires hearing. However, if I am extremely familar with a particular manufacturer and know they spare nothing when it comes to quailty, I do make purchase prior to listening.

The sticker price will always matter, but a a great product for a good price will always matter most to me. Like said before, the best bang for the buck.

Price is always my first concern. If I can't afford everything else doesn't matter. I like to get the most from my money.

I think all of these can be important. I think sound is the most important of any speakers. Each person has a different taste in sound. As in bass is concerned, I like tight bass.
