In the end it always comes down to cost performance ratio.

That is usally why I end up with midgrade equipment most of the time.

Quality of the product is #1 followed by warranty/support & price.

I voted sticker price, but price and quality are a close 1-2. I like to feel like I got a quality piece of equpiment at a good price.

Before I make a large purchase I really want to be able to touch and listen. This is why direct ordering online makes me a little nervous.

Sticker price and quality are biggies, but the most important to me is how I like the piece/unit. If the piece is a speaker/amp/receiver etc and the sound is sweet, that is what I yearn for. Obvious the price has to be realistic. All of us have personal tastes and satifying that taste is the most important.

Interesting poll

After selecting discounts and coupons, I feel a little ashamed of being in such a small number within a small number of voters.

Price is always #1. If I can't afford it...I can't buy it.

Return policy and customer service are #2a & 2B. If I get it home and don't like it I would like to be able to return it with out a hassle.

Well, sticker price is certainly important. I don't have unlimited funds. And a special discount or coupon, like bundle or AV123 family pricing, will make a difference.

But before all of that, I need to be convinced that the gear will provide a significant improvement to my setup. That means quality. If I'm convinced of quality, then I'll look at price to see if it's worth it.

I have always liked to hear what I am buying. It annoys me when I buy something that looks good (in terms of specs), but doesnt sound good in the end. It annoys me even more when I have to return it.

I also like seeing what else is being used in terms of equipment. For example, if they use an amp thats top of the line, and the system sounds great, then thats cool. But will it sound the same on a more budgeted amp?

Buy the best I can afford, taking all other factors in to account at a price range.

i am about to buy a new sub in the next 2 months & am having this exact problem right now. i am either getting the velodyne spl 1200, or an SVS. i have heard the velodyne at a store my friend works at so i can get a great discount, BUT everyone on this site & others love SVS. i love the way the velodyne sounds but have no idea what an svs sub can really do. i may get the velodye only b/c i already know i like the sound. the svs will be a huge gamble if i do not like it, i have 2 more months of reading posts to find out which i like.... arggg.... choices, choices....

It's all about the cheese. Deals are great and being able to test drive your equipment before comitting is great but if the price isn't right to begin with you lose most peoples interest right away.

I have to say that price is definately a factor, but its only part of it. Bang for the Buck I believe is the most important in buying anything. If I can spend a little bit more and get a lot more product then thats what I'll do.

I voted Other for the overall performance of the item. It's got to meet my standards before any of the other things come into play.

It's gotta come down to best bang for the buck for me. I don't mind spending the $$$, I just don't see the point in overpaying for stuff that isn't any better than other available gear. There is a law of diminishing returns...

Performance

equals value. Sticker price alone does not make a good sound, only the component. That is why I audition, audition, audition within a range of prices. You do reach a point of diminishing returns in search of the elusive id.;)

Ultimately, it's the cost that weighs the heaviset in the decision process for me (and WAF.)

While initial sticker price would be considered a pretty important choice..the availability of discounts and coupons would essentially "negate" the sticker price. So Im all for discounts and coupons.

Product reviews and sticker price are what help me decide on an item, but I determine the vendor by a combination of customer reviews and coupons/discounts.
