Dual Subwoofers - what to choose?

Whaa? That sounds like less, not more, 'oomp'!
Less how? More drivers than you have in your towers currently and a lower f3. The 800s only spec 2 dB lower than the 700s. That said you could bump the budget by 400 and get the 800s instead.

Don't get me wrong, I'm having some fun digging around for speakers, but your budget for all 5 presents a bit of a challenge. Also, you did mention a lateral move for aesthetics and I think the Paradigms tick all the right boxes with a good chance you may even like them better.

The Monoprice Monolith option might be right up your alley too as far as that goes.

I really like what I see with those mono price speakers. Just need to hear them.

It's medium density fiber board. I would think anyone with some experience could prolly put another wrap on those without too much trouble, and I can't imagine it would have any effect on performance.
I do not think so. I will look again but it appears to be particle board (at least on the IL30). Pop out the port and tell me what you think.

It's a fairly heavy textured wrap. With that and all of the angles it looks like a PITA to wrap (I'm no expert, though).

Glad you are, I am too. I appreciate all of the help & advice. Keep it coming - I'm ready the reviews and guides!

Yeah, I edited that in. You quoted it, lol. Bummer. I think my 2nd choice would be the Paradigms for op then. Good performance, right aesthetic and the peripheral speakers are available.
One of their authorized sellers is an AV store that I used to bike/walk to as a kid to drool over the latest/greatest thing. I ended up buying some car audio stuff from them. I haven't set foot in that store in 20+ years!

Just to update the thread, I ended up getting a wireless kit and hooking up my DIY 12" in the only hidden corner in the room. It's does a nice job filling in some of the dead area (due to the size of the room and location of the sitting area). I'm happy with the sub setup - now it's time to move on to replacing the rest of the speakers!
