Why would they try to modify a virus only to make it worse? I'd think they want to make it less potent? Also, I'm weary of the "herd immunity" phrase since there were people initially saying that. Was anyone really gonna infect more people first to reduce the virus? Doesn't seem to be in the govts interest to kill more people first.

First Herd immunity is a natural event and happens as more are exposed, by contact, immunization and to a large extent both. You modify a virus to make it worse as a development of a weapon of war.

Yes, gain of function is done to predict what viruses could do, then try and get ahead of the curve so to speak. Count me highly skeptical about that, and I'm not alone. I think the risks far outweigh any possible benefit. An you can bet the virus will still mutate in a way the researchers never thought of!

Reminds me of the deadly virus in Mission Impossible 2

In Mission: Impossible 2, the deadly biological weapon is a genetically modified synthetic virus named Chimera.

I guess I can maybe see such a possibility as providing some justification for gain of function research as a way to stay ahead of possible bad actors/terrorists who might pay big money to some guru to come up with a viral weapon with which they can threaten nations. Or even kidnap such a scientist and force him or her to develop the virus.

It isn't a realistic path for human beings though as you have to spread it around more to reach immunity. "Herd Immunity" almost sounds like cattle LOL. Then there's liability by govt for either doing nothing or letting a certain amount of people die first for the remainder to survive.

I remember when covid first started and that woman said look at how terrible my hair looks! I need a perm! Or that guy who was crying cause he couldn't go to the movie theater. I remember when Anderson Cooper had that guest on who was the mayor in Nevada. Cooper said it was like a "petry dish" sending the casino workers back. Then I think he asked if she was gonna be on the front lines because she's the decision maker? She said something about having to get home to her family. I remember thinking if I were her boss she's gonna be a greeter and a waitress handing out free drinks to customers. I.dont care if you are in.the 60s. Lead by example lol.

Glen Beck was one of the best. He said he was willing to die to keep the economy open.

Rand might be good in building a covid investigation committee, but not so good in his reasoning like kids have social deficits since covid. Or that he was the first senator to get covid. Or when he said if you are negative after a covid test, celebrate by going out to a restaurant. I thought WTF.

Dr Mengele? Or, the Tuskeegee Experiments- that was incredibly disgusting. Those doctors should have received the same 'treatments'.

It should be noted - especially in this thread - that Mengle's experiments amounted to torture of unwilling subjects and the deeply unethical Tuskegee study was conducted on unwitting subjects. They were in a different ethical universe from the efforts to produce Covid vaccines.

Fauci was a wonderful clinician, and made himself readily available. We had at least a couple of puzzling infectious disease cases in out ICU. When other resources were exhausted a clinician could talk to Dr Fauci by phone and we did on at least two occasions. His advice was spot on and greatly appreciated. It was clear to us, that his was a consummate clinician and would be as competent at the bedside as the best of clinicians. This targeting of Dr Fauci, by this fake, self qualifying eye surgeon is disgrace and should be condemned down the ages. Rand Paul is a really horrid little man.,

Well yeah that's part of the problem LOL. And what the hell is a raccoon dog??? I do realize there are some reasons China is stonewalling, like privacy concerns with its staff, but I think they could have released more information on the science and origins. I think a lot of people believe the virus' potency was no more than the flu. Big business etc for a shot that for some of us made us feel worse. The lockdowns etc, though complaining about wearing a mask was silly. I do agree though Rand Paul is not exactly the best rep for covid investigations.

Just a guess on my part, but I suspect Chinese stonewalling has more to do with the nature of totalitarian governments. They're naturally secretive, paranoid, and need to save face when confronted by an embarrassing failure - even if nothing nefarious was going on.
