All I can say is that it is a bad idea, and prone to blowing amps. I). Because owners make mistakes. 2). Because it halves the safe impedance load the amp can drive. So generally that means you need speakers they don't dip below 8 ohms in the major power bands. As of this time most speakers do. So I strongly caution you against bridging.
That could be true but there are nuance/caveats, if interpreted in a simple straightforward way, it could end up being just another one of those audioholics myth, and that would be sad.., danger of oversimplifying at work!!
The truth is, bridging an amp could result in quadrupling the output in "power/watts" into a resistor load, it usually end up about only doubling because of current being the bottleneck.
So if the owner knows his theory, he would still be able to benefit by having more headroom (relative to the amp's rated output into 8 ohms) for moments when the impedance rise above 8 ohms, while keeping the master volume low enough such that when impedance drops well below 8 ohms, the bridged amp won't run into overcurrent conditions.
To be clear, bridging would increase output into higher impedance, over its unbridged rated output, but it also will
not result in lower output into lower impedance, just will
not gain either, period. Again, agreed with what you stated, I just want to add nuance, hopefully a little bit of clarity to this.
