Mike, are you serious? You'd rather spend MORE dough for the thing? Huh. Maybe it's my near-poverty status, but I just don't get it.

Tell you what -- pay me the $137, I'll order it myself for you from HMV Japan, and we'll call it even. :D Sound good?

cheers,
supervij

I'll keep my order with HMV.jp

Adding in two other discs (Ryan Adams SACD MFSL and Trey Anastasio DVD-A) at costs that cannot be competed with domestically is a steal.

That's fantastic! Thanks for the news. I am going to cancel my order from HMV.jp, because I would rather order it domestically. Yes, it's slightly more expensive that way, but I'm fine with that.

Edit: took me forever to find, but here it is with no picture yet:

Correct me if Im wrong, but it seems that link is not working right...
I would like info about buying also...

Link is still working, but for the love of god all of a sudden Amazon has this sucker at $309!! WTF? Well, I didn't get a chance last night to cancel my preorder with HMV so the heck with it I'll keep it that way. I'm sure it's an error with Amazon, but who knows!

Supervij... I was simply trying to keep my money in America. So the extra few bucks plus faster shipping would of been worth it.

SACD/DVD combo box animation

Warp, looks like your best bet is HMV.jp which is the cheapest too. Just go to there site and type in Genesis, and scroll down to find the box set. It is NTSC as well.
Yeah, Mike, but according to some poster at AVSFORUM :
- they don't accept orders anymore
- the release date has been shifted to April 17th

On a lighter note - did you see this :D :

The link to this exciting animation was posted today on the offical Genesis site.

"... 48 page case-bound book with newly written essays ..." - somebody pinch me or I'm dreaming :D

yes, my understanding is HMV.jp has sold out already! I am hearing that sales are well so far for the box set, which is good. I'm not sure I understand the release date change either.
You guys aren't going to believe I decided to cancel my order after all, and I went and cauphed up $200 for the PAL version (still fine on my player), but I bought it from Steve Hackett's site and he is going to autograph it for me!:D
To me, worth it.

I did happen to check out the animation too on the G site. I was very impressed. It looks like they put a lot of thought and effort into these SACD's etc. People on the G forum are raving about how good the samples are coming thru there computer speakers. I listened to squonk and I was impressed.
On that note, I have a press dvd that are very few in circulation that has 10 tracks mixed in 5.1 (DTS). DODO/Lurder from the album Abacab, is freakin stunning the mix is so good. I never liked the song much, but that has now changed to I love it! I think Genesis will be a lot like Pink Floyd where their music was almost meant to be in surround because of some many sounds and effects.

Did you make your 3910 region-free ?

Mike - I don't believe it ! After all that fuzz you betrayed us, the faithful HMV followers?
Anyway, PAL is a better choice (in terms of PQ), assuming you "modified" your D-3910 to region-free mode (as I did) - cause these PAL disks are made with region 2 code.
Is it worthy $95 extra for Steve H. autograph ? Possibly, although I hope that Steve will pay the same honors to me (sign CDs/SACDs/DVDs), after one of his future US concerts (as he always does).

Would you mind sharing this info with a fellow G-holic - how did you come into possesion of such a treasure ? If you don't want to post it in public, you can always PM me ;)

You assumed correctly! 3910 is good to go. Also, from what I have read, the DVD's, whether NTSC or PAL, are Region code zero.

Yes I know, a little nutty to go with the Hackett route, but what the heck! I will only be missing Gabriel's autograph now from the classic five lineup.

At the first press conference back in November, they gave the press exclusive dvd's that are promo's only. They contain ten tracks in DTS 5.1 surround. I, and a few others, were writing on the G forum of how tasty it would be to get our chops on one. Someone PM'd me, and after some wheeling and heavy duty dealing, I got one in the US! I was asked to keep it quiet and protect that users identity as well.
I also know at the same time, one went up on ebay, and one day later, ebay shut it down (which is very rare for ebay to do). Needless to say I have never seen anymore available as they are very very rare. Don't know if the US press got them either.
One interesting note. Abacab is a track that happens to be on it. Abacab has since then been remixed, and so the version on the promo disc will never see official release (since they are going with the newer remix on the SACD).

I will try and list the tracks tomorrow!

SACD/DVD box set already available !!!

Thanks, Mike, for your honest reply ! :)
As for the surround tracks I have a question:
- how much are the surrounds "pushed forward", and where does Phil's voice come from?'
******************************************
And now, from our studio, comes BREAKING NEWS OF THE DAY !
Hey, I'm trying to hide my excitement, but it's really difficult, man.

As per this Forum thread on G-site (check the link below) some guys in Ireland, Holland and ...? had already purchased this combo and are putting pictures and reviews here:

They look stunning (w/original label's artwork), and - supposedly - sound even better :D !
That thread made my weekend super-enjoyable, although NOW anticipation is really killing me

Okay, not sure what you mean by 'pushed forward', please explain. Phil's vocals come directly from the center channel. Remember, as of right now, I can only reference the promo dvd yet as I have not got my box set yet. When there are effects on his voice like in the song Dodo/Lurker (which by the way is stunning), it seems the vocals splash out into the right and left channels too. Time will tell as we get our grubby hands on these albums.

Yes, I read about a few people getting them now. There is nothing but true excitement about the remixes. Everything I have read indicates that expectations are far exceeding what people thought they would.

Can't wait!! I think my copy shipped, but I have to wait for it to get here from oversea's!:(

Gene you going to buy the box and do a review? There are folks from other forums suggesting already that these SACD's may be highly talked about in upcoming audiophile mag's.

Just curious!

After hearing all the raves on the G site, I finally went to the HMV Japan site to find out the status of my order. In transit, and ready to be shipped, according to them this morning. Oh yay!

But just a few minutes ago, I received an e-mail from them, saying that the shipping charge is more than they estimated. They originally said it would be 1200 Yen ($11.78 CND), but now they want 2800 Yes ($27.49)! The cost of shipping more than doubled?! I was a little p*ss*d off, but I accepted the increase and asked them to ship it anyway. That small increase is still a better price than other places. And I don't really want to have to order it anew and start waiting all over again.

sigh,

That's a bummer that they increased the shipping. But I guess that's why they estimate it first.

Mine has shipped from the UK last friday. I know I will have to wait for a week or two... argh!

To bad there are so many hardcore fans whining about some of the video extras being as they say, inferior to some bootlegs out there. They have no idea of the unreal costs of getting the original material from the bbc etc.
For the mass fans that have never seen any of the footage, it will be great. I for one have hardly seen any unofficial stuff, so it will be nice to see some video footage even if it's not of perfect quality.

The sound quality is what I am buying these for anyway, the video extra's is secondary.
