Great choice of Genesis FAVs

supervij said:
If I had to pick favourites, I'd go with Foxtrot (1972), Selling England by the Pound (1973), Trick of the Tail (1977) and Wind & Wuthering. There are individual songs on other albums that are stellar, and I love them to bits, but we're talking about the whole album, beginning to end. Sorry, I can't really pick just one.

Excellent choices, supervij - very similar to mine ! ;)
I need to add "The Lamb.." though, as it is really totally "concept album" and to hear it in surround, with all the "Peter-Gabriel-designed-special-effects/strange-sounds" (e.g."The Grand Parade..."), will probably change my life forever - can not wait !!! :D

Five of these studio songs were on the original "TSL" album

Is this all extra tracks that were never on an album?

Correct! Sorry I didn't see you point that out and submitted my post. Mike
Actually, Mike, with all due respect - it is not correct !
(take it lightly from another Genesis-head !) ;)
Five songs from that list: Paperlate/You Might Recall/Me and Virgil/Evidence of Autumn/Open Door
made it on the first/European version of the "Three Sides Live" album (both LP and CD version, which I happen to have).
As the title of this double-album suggested, the three sides were "live" material (from '81 tour), while the fourth contained the abovementioned studio songs.
Only later, esp.in USA version, they replaced the fourth side with some unrelated concert recordings, without changing the title.

WAS, I would have added The Lamb except, as I said, we're talking about the full album, beginning to finish. And for me personally, The Lamb starts off great, but the ending is much weaker than the beginning. I'm not talking about the last track, "It", I mean the whole second disc (or third and fourth side, for those vinyl enthusiasts!). The second half is just not as exciting musically as the first, at least not for me.

Having said that, hearing the whole album in surround will likely blow my ears clean off my head! Can't wait!

cheers,

Looks like it's more like the end of March thru April 2nd for a release of the first 5, depending on where you live. Not sure how to update the title of this thread. Oh well!

Not Amazon Japan, but HMV Japan you should be looking at. http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2515278 Their price is 11,332 Yen, which equals $111.11 Canadian. And it's the only place (I think) that has NTSC region 0. Darn good price. I'd hop right on it if I hadn't already done so.

cheers,

Done and done.
I had to order thee import titles to get the 11,332 price instead of 13,000+ but didn't mind doing that.
I ordered the MFSL SACD recording of Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker and Trey Anastasio's Underappreciated on DVD-A to round out the order.
Altogether the order comes to $156 Canadian. You can't beat that.
Thanks for the heads up. :)

I'm not crazy about the "We Can't Dance"-era logo on the box, as the discs inside have nothing to do with the WCD album. And I'm curious about the pattern showing on those two exposed discs -- what are they?

But oh man, does it ever look shiny! Early April can't come too soon for me!

cheers,

Thanks from me for that link too, WAS! Still curious what that pattern is . . . at first I thought it was a repeating pattern of all the figures from the new tour logo, but I think it's something else. A month to go to find out!

Update

Update - looks like elusivedisc.com has the box set for $125 if you preorder it, and cduniverse.com has the individual albums for $25.99 each - not a bad deal. Both are US ran websites, and the good news is they are offering the formats as SACD/NTSC DVD's.

HMV Japan still seems like the least expensive option FOR NOW, though. But I wonder if it will have all Japanese text/writing on the discs and packaging. Ordering from them comes to $128 Canadian (includes shipping). If the box from elusivedisc.com has English text/writing, I might consider it, but it would still be at least $20 C more.

Josh from the G website set up a page that he says he'll keep updated with all the different vendors and what exactly they're selling. It's here: http://www.last.fm/user/SoonerCaniac/journal/2007/03/2/358561/. It doesn't seem to be fully updated at the moment, since he lists elusivedisc.com as having PAL DVDs. But it's something.

Book/Inserts for Japanese version

Just found this forum yesterday. Thanks for all of the great information on this box set.

I asked HMV Japan if the books/inserts would be in English or Japanese. The response was as follows:

"The book in this item will be in English as this is an Europe edition and there will be no Japanese. "

Seems like the best deal to me 6 SACDs with NTSC DVDs for roughly $109USD shipping included.

bholz - I will attach a link to a vendor list supporting the SACD's etc. Someone at the Genesis forum put hours into it. The forum however is crashed right now... so it will be a bit before I can provide the link.
HMV.jp IS the best deal I believe.

One important note to all: Apparently, some vendors are offering the 5 albums as a discounted price which I think they are calling a bulk set. If you are after the box set, then pay attention because the bulk set is 10 discs, and the box set is 12 discs.

6 SACD/DVD Box set

genesis471- Yes, I do realize that there are 5 SACD/(NTSC)DVD packages. Heck, I don't even need the NTSC DVDs as both of my players (NAD M55 and Onkyo Changer) play PAL/Region 0 discs and convert to NTSC for my display. :)

However the deal at HMV Japan for the 6 SACD/DVD set even beats the price of any other offering so far.

BTW: I noticed that tickets for the tour go on sale this Saturday for the Philadelphia (and other September) show. Actually, tickets for Fan Club members are already on sale. I'm sure most of you already knew that.

What version is HMV Jpn selling?

If the Jpn HMV says they're selling the European import, doesn't that mean the DVDs will be in the PAL format?
