PSB Speakers? Should I take the plunge?

I liked the PSB speakers I have heard, though they were towers rather than in-walls. Ceiling speakers are generally a bad choice for surround, as they always sound like they are above you and don't blend well with the mains. (Actually, ceiling speakers were developed for background music, and...

    Klipsch....buy or avoid?

That is how Klipsch speakers effect me with most types of music.

    Klipsch....buy or avoid?

I don't have any axe to grind about Klipsch. I merely think their sound quality sucks. To me, they are harsh and grating like a dental drill.

    Anyone Listen to Soundtracks?

I find it extremely rare for a soundtrack to be enjoyable on its own, without the video. The only ones I can think of offhand that I really enjoy are Blade Runner and Koyannisquatsi.

    Golf Ball-Sized Speakers? What's Next?

I have a pair of portable speakers that run on AA batteries. They are bigger than those!

    Magnepan, Snell, or other?

Like all bipolar and dipolar speakers, the Magnepans need to be well out into the room, so make sure you have plenty of space before buying them. They also definitely need a sub. With both of those conditions met, they sound fantastic.

The lack of dynamics in modern music

Very consistently, with almost no exceptions, I find that I prefer new recordings and remasters to older CDs. Does this mean that compression results in a sound that I like?

Klipsch for music and Def Tech for HT?

I love my Def Tech system for HT. I would not recommend Klipsch to anyone for any application. I find them painfully bright, harsh, and metallic.

    best speakers at circuit city?

That was my point exactly. They are nice speakers and it is hard to imagine not being happy with them. One would have to spend quite a lot more to do much better.

    best speakers at circuit city?

I discovered that after it was already too late.:(

    best speakers at circuit city?

Early 80's. They lasted until the late 90's (when the foam rotted.) They sounded excellent.

    best speakers at circuit city?

Boston's are not the speakers I currently have, but they were certainly one of the options that I considered. I used to have a pair of A60s and loved them.

    best speakers at circuit city?

Boston Acoustics are not something to "settle" for. They are very good speakers, and would be a good choice even if buying at CC was not one of the parameters.

I went with Klipsch, and I was extremely dissappointed.:(

What's so special about centre speakers?

When using fronts with good imaging, a center speaker has no benefit for viewers sitting on axis. Its only purpose is to anchor dialog for those sitting off axis. Since I mostly watch movies solo, I don't use a center and I am not missing anything.

    Worst-sounding recordings?

I will try one of those. Morph the Cat was the first Fagan solo CD I bought, and the only one I own so far. I love it, so if those others are even better, I am sure I will like them. I don't believe it is possible that At War with the Mystics does not sound exactly as the band intended, as they...

    Worst-sounding recordings?

Most of the recordings that I have heard from the very beginning of the CD era (early 80s) sound bad to me. They were just thin, in a way that makes them seem excessively quiet no matter how loud they are played. An example would be Flying Cowboys by Ricky Lee Jones. On the other hand, both At...

    definitive technology or klipsch

I keep seeing all these threads about fill in the blank vs. Klipsch. My .02 worth is that I would recommend most decent brands over Klipsch. I bought some RB 61s and ended up selling them because they sounded excessively bright, harsh, and metallic. In the long run, fatigue made them unlistenable.

    here it is!

You definitely do not need a sub with the BP2006s. They put out as much bass as anyone could possibly want. I don't even want or need a sub with the BP10s.

    Speaker Upgrade

It took a lot of time and money for me to learn that neither "different" nor "more expensive" neccessarily equate to "better". You really need to think about what (if anything) you don't like about your current speakers before upgrading, and then look for models that address those particular issues.
