I have a CD called The Liquid Tension Project. He and Tony Levin are the rythm section. Awesome, blistering jazz-metal.

    How to biamp?

My speakers are bi-ampable (though Boston explicitely says not to use an external crossover.) My new Denon (2-channel) receiver has pre-outs. My old Carver integrated has main-ins, so it can be used as a straight power amp. Is this enough to try bi-amping? If so, how do I configure it?

Newbie in Need of Advice - Bookshelf Speakers on a Limited Budget

http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=25412 Are there better speakers? Yes. At this price or less? I seriously doubt it, as this is a massive discount on speakers that are a bargain at full MSRP.

    Speaker Cable doesn't matter?

Cables designed for audio probably do sound somewhat better than those (eg lamp cord) that are not. Gauge makes a difference for long runs. That's about it. I bought some moderately expensive cable ($2.00/ft) and temporarily convinced myself that it was an improvement. Once I did a proper A/B...

My First Post, I have a question about speaker wires

The claims about cables are actually relatively easy to believe compared to the claim about the "myth" of short auditory memory. It is a proven fact that auditory memory lasts a few minutes at the most. Nobody can make a valid comparison between speakers by hearing them an hour or more apart...

    Bagpipe

Interestingly, the best bit of bagpipe playing that I have heard had nothing to do with Scotland. It is on a CD by the middle-eastern percussion ensemble Zarbang. The bagpipe in question is made from an animal bladder, and clearly of truly ancient origins (I can easily envision a caveman making...

My First Post, I have a question about speaker wires

I believe that you believe all of that. This is, of course, quite different than actually believing any of it. In particular, there is a major difference between remembering that you liked or disliked a particular system (which I am sure you do) and actually having a detailed memory of the sound...

    Help a newbie out. Thanks!!

Boston Acoustics speakers sound excellent, and are deeply discounted right now at CC and One Call.

I'm thinking of going back my Koi hobby ...

I have a 2-channel system separate from my HT, in a different room. You could use them for that. I tried a center once, returned it to the store, and haven't used one since (that was 6 years ago), so you could also use them for HT in "phantom" mode. If you like them as much as you say, you can...

I like hobbies. I have several. I don't think I am going to be adding Koi to that list, though.:)

The Last Mimzy - LFE !

I think you are trying too hard to find "deeper" meaning in it. To me it was just entertainment, and succeeded on that level.

Toe-in caused my soundstage to collapse

All of my previous speakers have sounded best with a lot of toe-in. The owner's manual for my new Bostons recommended minimal toe-in. This seemed odd, but I tried it and it did give me the best soundstage. I think it depends quite heavily on the particular make and model.

Thoughts on Polaroid LCD at Circuit City?

That is seriously cheap for a 46" (it would be pretty good even for a 42".) If you like the picture, it might be worth going for. (Not sure how to check reliability, though.)

I'm thinking of going back my Koi hobby ...

I have always believed that speakers make a big difference. (This difference is not always correlated with price. My current Boston VR2s were substantially less expensive than my previous B&W 705s, and sound better to my ears.) I was very much a skeptic about electronics. Recently, I bought a...

My First Post, I have a question about speaker wires

I tried some Kimber Kables. For a little while, I thought I might have heard a difference. When I tried switching back to Home Depot 14 gauge, though, I could tell that there had actually been no difference at all.

Seriously, I need an electric razor and know nothing about what's available today

I replace the (three) heads on my Norelco from time to time, but the razor itself has been going strong for over 15 years. My only complaint is that replacement heads have become difficult to find, since the particular model is no longer made.

    Favorite drummers

His solo singing career and his role in leading Genesis from their classic sound into mainstream pop have lost Phil Collins some respect and shifted the focus away from his drumming. He truly is one of the all-time great drummers, though. One need look no further than The Lamb Lies Down on...
