I'm thinking of going back my Koi hobby ...

All amps sound the same ... no upgrade there.
All speaker cables sound the same ... no upgrade there.
All CD players sound the same ... no upgrade there.

You guys are boring.

I can barely distinguish the difference between speakers ... no upgrade there.
Subwoofer differences are far from night and day differences above a certain price point ... too expensive to buy them all.

This is getting boring.

Am I the only person in the world who can't hear NIGHT and DAY differences between speakers?

Am I the only person who can't say: "my new sub is like ... wow!" "I'm at a loss for words" "There's so much BS words of praise I can say I can't pick one!" - you get the point, go search the forums for the NIGHT and DAY differences they hear.

I mean, there's so much HYPE out there for new stuff that when I do get the new item, i am SO disappointed. I mean, sure there's an improvement when it comes to subs, but "it rocked my house" is kinda generic. Check out this example: search the forums for posts about the F113, you will see things like "I can't believe this is the greatest sub out there"; a few posts up, somebody who gets a new ultra (who happens to have the F113 as well) says "this is 10x better than my F113"

How can that be?! How can the greatest subwoofer be improved upon in multiples!? c'mon! the F113 is just an example, countless other subs before it was "the greatest subwoofer you can buy for X$ and even 3x X$".

Am I deaf!? Am I numb? where is the freakin kick in the chest!?

When I was choosing my amp (Rotel RMB1077), based on the forums, this amp can cook my breakfast! it sounds better than rotel amps whose power is 4x stronger! ha!, that was the biggest setup of HYPE balloon popping ever.

You could always be happy with what you've got and kick back and put on a movie or some music and enjoy it. Always worked for me.

no, I'll be doing exactly that ... enjoy my movies, enjoy my music ...

it's just that, what kind of hobby ends? I feel I'm done.

Well if your not happy doing that perhaps you should venture into 2 channel. Tubes, DIY, Vinyl. Etc :D

You haven't even come close to the end. Your so far from HT Ecstasy you have no idea.

I will give you just a sample view of the finish line. Audio Nirvana.

haoleb, that's a sub-hobby I can't touch ... :) I can't even hear the speaker differences ... besides I'm 95%HT, 5% audio ... that still hasn't changed from the time I jumped into this hobby.

mazer, maybe I should do that! 56kw of JBL power sounds nice.

Seems you are aching for an IB!

On the other hand I used to collect imported goldfish from China & Japan but gave it up because I could't keep up with the maintainance and my job so I get your point.

I burned out of the koi hobby awhile back because one of my Kois died in a "I forgot to turn off the tap water" accident ... and then another one lost all its color. I said to myself, the audio hobby is much cheaper and much more predicatable! amps don't die, amps don't change color. (yes, the audio hobby is still cheaper than my Koi hobby was). I bought an SLR camera so I can take pics of my fish so I can record the changes that happen.

I still have all of my Koi and building another pond ... I'm gonna move all my old Koi into the new pond and start from scratch on my old one.

56 kW of JBL power is pathetic. Anything less than 1 jigawatt is Lame, I tell you, Lame. :D

You guys are ruthless! In fairness to Dolby, his Sig line is referencing an actual movie theater in London with 56KW. I've been there, it is quite an impressive theater!

Mike C, Have you ever considered trying your hand at a musical instrument? I gained an enourmous respect for music and sound quality by learning to play the guitar and piano (although I am terrible at the Piano :D). Good luck

I feel your pain brother. It's like me now wanting a AVR with HDMI 1.3 so I can get Dolby true HD. When I think about buying something else to make my system sound better and I already believe it sounds awesome; it just doesnt make any sense to me.

Anyway; I got to go. Need to order my new amp and look at some AVRs and room treatments...
