Binding post: learn from my mistake!

Is there a verse about "tightening nuts"?:p

Binding post: learn from my mistake!

I honestly don't know what I was thinking. This is an example of something that "seemed like a good idea at the time", but obviously wasn't. As Alexxus said, I probably don't need to replace it since re-tightening the nut worked.

Best male singing voice ever...who has it?!

Good points. I agree that Jim could really stir the emotions. I guess I was interpreting the thread more in terms of "technical" singers. Like you, there are some that I fully acknowledge and appreciate from that standpoint (eg Pavarotti), but that I don't actually enjoy listening to. Widening...

Best male singing voice ever...who has it?!

Jim had a lot going for him, especially charisma. He also wrote great lyrics. A great singer, though? I think not.

Binding post: learn from my mistake!

I think that "holy ****" was one of the nicer things that I said.:p Even though I got it working again, I might have more peace of mind by replacing it (especially if I need to change the wires at some point in the future.). Any idea where to buy replacement binding posts?

    Bookshelf vs. Floorstanding?

If I ever do find any (especially at a reasonable price), I will be both surprised and impressed.

    Bookshelf vs. Floorstanding?

I have yet to hear bookshelves that can provide the effortless dynamics and sense of "presence" that even modest floorstanders can. I am also not convinced by the claim that small speakers image better, since my floorstanders image very well indeed (albeit after a fair amount of fiddling with...

    Speaker Cable doesn't matter?

"Looks cool" is a motivation that I can totally accept, as long as it is not accompanied by delusional claims of "sounds better".:)

    Speaker Cable doesn't matter?

12 gauge seems like overkill unless the runs are really long. I am using 14 gauge and that is probably overkill also. 16 gauge should work perfectly for anything under 25 feet.

Are you using multi-channel analog outputs or a digital output?

My First Post, I have a question about speaker wires

I know that the audio processing area of the brain can be fooled, because mine has been (more than once.) Paying good money for something provides strong motivation to perceive it as better, even when it is not.

Binding post: learn from my mistake!

I like a good, tight electrical connection. I got a bit overenthusiastic tightening the binding posts, and one of them suddenly spun free! I was afraid I had permanently broken it, but was able to fix it by removing the plate and adjusting a nut from inside (whew.) My conclusion: Don't use a...

    Bagpipe

And what, pray tell, is wrong with hippies? Some of the best music ever was written and performed in the late '60s, and nearly all of it by hippies. The greatest guitarist of all time (Hendrix, of course) was a hippie. (There are also a lot of other excellent reasons for liking hippies that...

    Best female voice

I listen to a lot of music that is not "pop". I do not, however, listen to classical. I played in the orchestra for the duration of my public-school years, but I guess it just never "took". Classical makes good movie soundtracks, though.:D

Is it time to buy a Blu Ray player?

They are still too expensive for me. The cheapest I have seen is $500. By comparison, an entry-level standard DVD player is around $50, and a nice one with upscaling can be had under $150.

    How to biamp?

Yeah. Going from the Carver to the Denon was a step up in sound quality (clarity and detail are very noticeably improved), but a step down in power. It may not matter, though, as I listen at fairly low volume. The greater headroom might make a difference. As I said, I have not tried using the...

    Paper woofer cone tear aarrrgghhh!

That sucks. Edge-to-edge gluing alone could work, but I think it would be more effective to span the gap with fibers of some kind. Fabric, perhaps?

    How to biamp?

Thank you. This step could present a problem. The Carver is, in effect, a separarate pre-amp and power amp in a shared chassis. When the "straps" bridging these are removed, I don't think that the volume control has any effect. Oh well, it was just going to be an experiment anyhow. I love the...
