    Clean slate

We have all experienced that desire for something completely new.:o Suppose you were to get rid of everything you currently own and build a new 2-channel music system from a clean slate (for a 10 X 20 ft room, with CD as the only source.) 1) What would you consider the minimum expenditure for...

I am all for watching one of her shows, as long as I have the sound turned off.:D

Where can I get good prices in Canada?

Considering that some of the world's best speakers are made by Canadian companies, I would expect you to find better deals there than in the US. Look at Energy, Mirage, Paradigm, PSB, Axiom, etc. (all of which sound better than Klipsch IMO.)

    Bowers & Wilkins 805's

I would love to hear Dalis and/or Totems. Unfortunately, there is nowhere within reasonable driving distance to do so.:(

    First foray into room treatments

I ran their simple room acoustics analysis program, and it told me that my room is already in the "target" range for echo!

    First foray into room treatments

That is the site I was looking at. Two panels and two yards of fabric to cover the (front only) of them with is $38.

Using TV as center channel speaker

I agree 100%. There is really no advantage to using a poor quality, mismatched center (which is definitely what the TV speaker would be.) Phantom center will sound much better.

    Speed Racer

Looks moderately entertaining. Agree about The Jetsons.

    First foray into room treatments

I just found a site that sells the DIY stuff cheap. Two 2' X 4' panels would come to $38+shipping. I may try that later, but right now the foam is already on its way.

    First foray into room treatments

Treble frequencies are by far the most directional, and hence largely responsible for soundstage/imaging. Since that is what I primarily hope to improve, why would absorbing treble not help?

    First foray into room treatments

Many here have stressed the importance of room treatments, but I have never tried them. I have ordered a couple of 2" pyramidal foam panels to cover the first reflection points. I will report the results (if any) when I get them. :) (This is just a cheap way to test the concept. If I hear an...

    Audioholics Store Open?

They are selling Yamaha speakers. Did Yamaha start making decent speakers at some point, and I just missed it?

    NOOB Recommendations: Bookshelfs >$400.00

Ah. Since I only visited this thread to post the one comment based on the title, I couldn't have known that.:)

    Sharper Image

Oh, I wasn't. I happened to wander into their store at the mall the other day, saw this, and thought "you have got to be kidding!" Oh, and I agree that all of their stuff is junk, not just their speakers.

    NOOB Recommendations: Bookshelfs >$400.00

$399 is less than $400. The OP specified greater than $400 (">$400".):D

    2 Woofers or one?

I have seen plenty of threads go off track, but never this far off track.:D

    Sharper Image

Did you notice the "two left channel, two right channel" part? I think they are claiming that the one tower does stereo (even though it only has one tweeter, and the midranges are vertically aligned!) Oh, and I meant awful as in POS, not awful as in ugly.

    Sharper Image

Who actually makes the speakers sold under the Sharper Image brand? Are they as awful as they look?
