$3K will get you the flagship NAD. I am hard put to imagine a better receiver than that.

    B&W Flat Panel

The B&Ws I am familiar with are the 602s and 705s. The 602s are excellent and I highly recommend them. The 705s are good, but not enough better than the 602s to justify the price difference IMO. In other words, B&W makes some great speakers, but only you can decide if a particular model is...

    This is funny...

Brilliant marketing. You've gotta hand it to somebody who can make money from such worthless junk. (As for the devices themselves, their invention must have involved drugs.:))

    Clean slate

Patience is a virtue, but not a virtue that I possess. My Mirage Omni 350s arrive Tuesday, and the waiting is driving me nuts!:( (The hardest part is deciding whether or not to listen to the 150s between now and then, as this could reduce the impact of the transition.)

It did kind of end up that way.:o

Why are separates so much more expensive?

One of those amps could likely be adapted to that purpose.:D

Why are separates so much more expensive?

Only if you choose to take it that way. Someone who admits to using 14 exotic amps in one system ("6 for the fronts alone") should expect to get picked on.

    Loudspeakers in apartment?

Just don't play any recordings that include loud clapping!:D

    Loudspeaker Upgrade

I think you are too concerned with "optimal" or "ideal" set up which is never going to be a possibility in my apartment. What I care about is what sounds excellent to me. This was very easy to achieve with the 150s and should be equally easy with the 350s as they are the same except for bass.

    Loudspeaker Upgrade

I ordered the panels while I was still using monopoles. I guess I won't use them (only out $30.) The speakers cannot be moved farther from the walls, but they can be moved a few feet closer to the listening position (Mirage recommends 9' for 6' spacing). My integrated amp has active crosstalk...

    Loudspeaker Upgrade

My room is 10' X 20', with my primary listening position centered on one of the short walls. The way I set up the 150s was 9' from the back wall (11' from the listening position) and 2' from the side walls (hence 6' apart) with minimal toe-in. At this point, I plan to set up the 350s the same...

    Loudspeaker Upgrade

I dreamed of expensive speakers until I heard the Mirage Omni 150s. They sounded so freakin' incredible that I have ordered the 350s. If they are as awesome as I expect them to be based on the 150s, they will be the last speakers I ever buy. Make sure you hear Mirages before committing to...

    Loudspeakers in apartment?

I haven't had a complaint in almost 4 years in my apartment. Living on the ground floor helps. Also, I only play music/watch movies between 8:00am and 9:00pm.

Why are separates so much more expensive?

The more I think about it, the more convinced I become that there is nothing at all wrong with the electronics I have now, and no real reason to upgrade. The only things I don't like are that they are old, from different manufacturers, and not visually attractive, none of which justify spending a...

Why are separates so much more expensive?

Ah. I need to remember this about you, and ignore your advice in the future. Nothing against you, you understand, we just live in different universes so that nothing that applies to your system is in any way relevant to that of we ordinary mortals.

Why are separates so much more expensive?

Ah yes, features. Here are the features I want: One stereo input for a CD player, a volume control, and one pair of speaker jacks. That's it.:)

Why are separates so much more expensive?

Is this just your theory, or have you actually done an A/B comparison between separates and a receiver with the same power output (same source, speakers, room, etc., of course)?

Why are separates so much more expensive?

I also don't see how receiver+amp is going to sound much better than just the receiver, unless more power is the main issue. It is the preamp section that will have the most opportunity to add noise or otherwise modify the signal, correct?
