    Loudspeakers in apartment?

Sounds pretty optimistic to me (especially that last bit.:D)

I probably will go for a pair of NADs later (hnh, hnh, hnh, he said "pair of NADs".) If the Omni 350s turn out to be as awesome as I expect based on my experience with the much smaller 150s, they may satisfy my speaker itch once and for all. New electronics would look better (and in the case of...

Why are separates so much more expensive?

NAD was just an example. If I buy electronics from them, I will probably go the integrated route. 40 watts/ch is as much as I am ever likely to need (and fortunately I will never have any use for a phono stage.) Separates would be nice, but are too big of a jump. someone should make a...

Now that my Mirages are enroute, I am putting the BP8Bs back in the HT (where they match my 10B fronts) and listening to the Polks until they arrive. This way, it will sound like a bigger step up (psychology 101.:D)

Why are separates so much more expensive?

I know separates are supposed to sound better than receivers or integrated amps, but why such a friggen huge price gap? For example: the entry-level NAD integrated amp is $350 while their cheapest preamp+power amp is $1400. It is this way with most brands for which I am able to find...

Sweet. How much? (I notice the power amp is on the bottom of the stack. Doesn't that create heat issues?)

I know you are joking, but those will be within my price range in a few months (assuming the 250A is also around $800.) Does Acurus also make a CD player? I ask because I would prefer matching components to my current Frankenstein setup. Edit: Never mind. I just found out they are discontinued...

    Learning Spanish...

I took a few semesters of Spanish in college, and did quite well in it. Now it is totally gone. Amazing how fast language disappears when you don't practice it regularly.:(

Well, I did it. If I hadn't gone ahead and bought bought the Omni 350s, and later they had gone back up to their regular $600 price, I would have kicked myself (even though I am left with only $80 until the 18th:eek:) The Omni 150s are easily the best bookshelf speakers I have heard (including...

It wasn't until last night that I solved it. Besides, I probably will upgrade at some point, although probably not until I have saved up at least $3K or so.

Music Concert DVD's - List your favorite

There is a thread just like this one in the music area. Perhaps they could be combined?

    Favorite concert DVD's

I have the Yanni in Vegas, and it is excellent. I may get the new Celine Dion one, also (I have only recently realized how good she is. Before, I only knew her soundtrack work.) I am not very familiar with Chris Botti, but I like most new age/smooth jazz.

I have always thought that my BP8Bs sounded great overall, but that they were flawed by muddy bass. This has turned out to be a placement issue. I moved them as far from walls as possible in my room, and now they are close to perfect. My electronics are butt-ugly to look at, but sound great...

That CDP, being their most "affordable", is a deal-breaker. No CDP can sound good enough to justify that price. (Even $300-$400 for an NAD CDP would be justified primarily by looks and build quality.) I agree that the integrated is a decent price, but I wouldn't want one brand of integrated and...

$2400 would be doable in around 6 months. Why is the Strata Mini called "Mini", when it is 47" tall? Also, if you were going to buy AV123 speakers, would you not get electronics from them also? The powered studio monitor route has its appeal. I would like it best with a direct...

Interesting you mention that, because I was just looking at NAD stuff and it looks nice for the price. I last heard PSB in Montana a good 15 years or so ago, but liked them at that time. KEF iQ series is something else I have been thinking about, and also Rockets.

Thinking of a level of performance I have not had before, and not sure what it will cost for the difference to be "night and day" (a subtle difference is not worth it.) Also, yes my gear is getting older. (I have had the Def Techs,my best speakers, for 8 years. The amp is from 1992. Even the CD...

The current Schmoe system is an Onkyo DX-C390 CD changer, a Carver CM1090 integrated amp, and one of 3 speaker systems (Def Tech BP8Bs, Polk Monitor 50s+PSW10 sub, or Mirage Omni 150s with/without the sub.) Carrying some things over defeats the purpose of having 100% shiny, brand-new stuff!:D

Well, that's one of the questions, isn't it. My current system is worth about $1800 MSRP, though I paid less than that. The obvious tradeoff is that spending more means saving longer (credit is not an option), but could also lead to greater long-term satisfaction. Even though I am not a...
