Indie musicians affect CD sales precisely to the extent that they sell their music via downloads. Some do release their music on vinyl, of course, but vinyl will always be a drop in the bucket compared to both CD and downloads.

Just be sure not to lose sight of the fact that they are strictly entertainment. I stopped believing their reviews decades ago. My favorites are the British magazines HiFi News and What HiFi.

The threat to CDs comes from downloads. Vinyl is a niche market, and always will be. Sure, a few audio hobbyists are into vinyl, but ipods rule the world.

Any speakers nominally 4 Ohms or above, and with an efficiency rating if around 87 dB or above can be driven quite comfortably by the 340A. As I said, all but a handful of speakers meet these simple requirements.

I wish that I could agree with that, since I love CDs (and will certainly be keeping mine forever.) I have recently seen both Borders and Barnes & Noble drastically reduce their CD stock, however. (Borders now has fewer than 1/3 as many CDs as they did!) This makes me think that the format...

I have the 340C and 340A. The sound is so good that I cannot justify the cost of moving higher up the CA line for either component. I have used the 3404A with many different speakers, and it has more than ample power for all of them. The only thing the 540A could have trouble with is speakers...

In other words, it is paint. Truth in advertising would be to say "Instead of using insulation in our speakers, we paint the insides of the cabinets.":rolleyes:

My collection is so huge that it already contains just about everything I want to listen to. The last 10 times that I went CD shopping, I either came away empty-handed or with just one CD. I used to buy 40 or 50 a month.

To me, the phrase "high end" refers to excellent sound. Since a remote has no effect on sound, how can it be high end?
