looking for definitive technology bipolar speaker placement experiences!

I normally use my BP8Bs and 10Bs in my HT, which is a small room. In there, I can only place them 8" from the wall behind them and 10" from the side walls. This gives a huge soundstage (subjectively eliminating the room), but at the cost of some imaging precision. Music in this setup has boomy...

    Favorite Metal/Rock band

Mine was, is, and always will be Blue Oyster Cult. (Especially their first three albums.)

Too many affordable bookshelf speakers to choose from

If it is specifically minimonitors you are looking for (not just bookshelves in general), then the Cambridge Audio S30s are tough to beat. You can get them for just $230/pr, and IMO they sound as good as any minimonitors on the market, including the $1000/pr B&Ws.

    Extraordinary claims

Before this thread disintegrates into the usual chaos, here are my conclusions: 1)The Role claim might be possible, but there is no way to be sure. 2)The Beaks are pure snake oil, and call Totem as a whole into question (as does "borosilicate damping".) 3) Whether or not Def Techs go as...

    Extraordinary claims

Since the BP10Bs reach 20Hz -3dB (as verified by Stereophile), and are passive, I see no reason why the 7000s would not reach well into the teens with their built-in subs.

    Explain amp wattage for me.

+1 (That was all I wanted to write, but stupid forum rules require me to write more. Gee, I wonder if I have written enough now. I would sure hate to use too few words.:D)

    Got Bling?

What the hell is "bling" anyway? I have heard the term, but have no idea what it means. (I actively avoid contact with rap and rap culture.)

How would I know if my AVR can drive floorstanders?

There was never any doubt. As I mentioned earlier, the Primus line was designed for use with entry-level receivers. They present a very easy load (high efficiency and no major impedance dips.)

    Extraordinary claims

While I concede that I cannot confirm 22Hz, the BP8Bs do have serious, gut-punching, room-shaking, seismic bass. As much as I love the sound of them, I sometimes feel uncomfotable having them in my living room for fear of being evicted. Interestingly, both the BP8Bs and the Primus 250s use two...

    Extraordinary claims

Some speaker manufacturers make truly extraordinary claims. These claims cause me to be suspicious and wonder if the whole company might be snake oil. Is there any way to verify them? Example 1) The Role Audio Sampan is 4" square X 36" high with a single 4" driver. Claimed frequency response...

Does your system still surprise you?

I occasionally swap my BP8Bs or BP10Bs from my HT for the Primus 250s in my stereo. I enjoy them, but would enjoy them more if they had less bass. It is hard to relax and enjoy the music when I am worried about being evicted because the bass is so intense! (This is not an issue in the HT...

Really... and I mean REALLY scary movies!

There were a few movies that scared me as a kid, but none since around 20 or so. I think we lose the ability to forget that it is a movie, which makes it hard to be scared by it. One thing is certain: explicit violence (eg Hostel) is gross and upsetting, not scary.

Does your system still surprise you?

I spend about 1.5 hours every night just listening. I always appreciate how fantastic the sound is, but I would no longer say it surprises me. (I have occasionally considered a more expensive system in an abstract way, but when listening to mine, I realize there would be no point in spending...

    Fighting the loudness war

For the most part, I don't either for the same reason. Unfortunately, I have gotten a couple of jazz recordings with audible compression lately. (Sadly, it has affected Mindi Abair, who I love.)

    Fighting the loudness war

Just distortion, surface noise, narrow frequency range, and deterioration with repeated plays.

Just realized how big this generation gap is..

I have done many illogical things in my life, but I don't see how that involves faith. A christian friend of mine once told me that he thought it must take faith to be an atheist. His point was that I had to feel confident that I was not going to hell. I told him that that is really easy...

Just realized how big this generation gap is..

Two out of ten ain't bad.:D I have never committed murder or adultery (of course, the adultery one is easy since I have never been married.) Fortunately, I couldn't care less about the rest.

Just realized how big this generation gap is..

For me, it is the opposite of religion. It means not believing in anything without direct evidence. In particular, it means not accepting anything on faith.
