Sound Quality

Hey I was just wondering for anyone who watched Transformers in Standard Def did you not like the sound? I was just wondering. I just got a new center channel ( I let it break in btw) and when I was watching the movie it seemed like the voices of the human characters were boxy and nasal. Anyone experience that? By the end of the movie I actually was hearing distortion when Sam and Mikaela were talking about "I'm glad I got into the car". I totally thought it was the center channel and decided to send it back. But, I thought I would test it on another movie so I watched 300 at the same volume levels. No distortion, no nasality. Do you think I got a bad copy?

You probably let it break in too much... take it back, it's no good now..

jk.

There is no such thing as break in, and what center channel is it? try adjusting the volume.. I found mine to be just right.

Oh, come on, Sheep.

How can you not love Lycans + Vampires + Babes?

Sure it could have been better. Yes.

Didn't Len Wiseman directed Underworld, Underworld Evolution, and Die Hard 4?

I thought the PCM soundtracks to UW & UW Evolution were fantastic.
Sorry, underworld sucked the big one for me.

I can't relate to that stuff because I have ZERO reference to the history of the Transformers franchise or storyline. To me.....everything in the movie was fresh and new.
Same here and I though this movie rocked! My kids loved it too. I only gave it a four star rating on Netflix though. I really like Shia LeBeouf in the movie and look forward to him being in the next Indiana Jones movie and Megan Fox was hot. A great popcorn movie for me. I didn't think the sound track was that great but the video looks incredible in HD.

Your room acoustics probably suck. I'm guessing...for 1..... you probably don't have acoustic room treatmens in your media room?

Select a passage in the film that is the most noticeable that you think this, then disconnect the center and temporarily wire the left or right speaker to the center channel and see if the dialogue improves.

I still think that the audio on my copy is bad. I hooked my old center channel which is made by a different manufacturer and the voices still sounded nasal and the passage where I heard the distortion still distorts on a different speaker. Even at lower volumes it does, therefore I don't think that it is distortion on my end it's the mic they used clipping or something. Thanks for all the replies though.

Certainly. I just wanted to make sure that you get the same issues with a known good speaker.
Maybe you can try this disc elsewhere, in a store or friends house? I suppose they could have bad pressings.

It has to be the copy or my Onkyo receiver or my playstation 2(current dvd player-using optical out) because the same reaction with two different speakers. The first speakers was a new Mirage omni c150http://www.miragespeakers.com/v2/product_page.php?open=lines&subid=884&id=888 and the next one was my old infinity primus c25http://www.crutchfield.com/S-l2WD6ajwKyc/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?I=108pc25&search=c25. Then I put on other movies to test the centers first 300 then Terminator 3. The latter two movies sounded great at high volumes. I don't know. I would like to try someone elses system but I don't have any friends with systems or know anyone from the forum near me. I live in Columbia SC.

Since you indicate that other DVDs sound fine or better, it cannot be any of your components. Not sure if another Transformer disc will cure your issues. One reason to make sure that it is the disc. Can you visit a local audio store that has displays? Even if you just play the disc without video to test the center. Then, you may want to call the disc producers or whomever issued them, not the seller, and see if it can be exchanged?
At times they will by sending your copy.

How about I just send it to Tom for in depth analysis? What do you guys think? We'll just pass it around the forum and see what everyone's consensus is.

I rented the sd widescreen transformers the other night and was very aware of the lack of spectacular sound. I thought maybe I had a setting wrong on my receiver or something. I have a toslink cable between my Toshiba DR5 and my yamaha rxv1500, a little fuzzy on which sound option to choose on the receiver, I guess usually I select surround standard, then there is surround enhanced, and several others including dts pcm.

Watched it for the sixth time last night, 2 in theater, 1 SD dvd, 3 HDdvd. Have never been disappointed in sound. It was just the wife and I, no guest, so we had her cranked pretty good.

How do you get her watch it for 6 times? I hardly can make my better half watch the same movie for 3 times (only the LOTR she was willing to watch it 3x).

I would have to completely agree with that statement. For me it took over from the Matrix as my favorite.

My wife and I are usually on the same page when it comes to movies [and most anything actually]. She is usually in the mood for "something loud" :). We watched U571 for the umpteenth time the other night. And almost watched
Transformers again last night because my sister and law was over and saw my 55" Hitachi plasma for the first time, so I sampled the first 5 minutes of Transformers for a bit of a teaser. Didn't take her long to ask if they could come over later in the evening to watch. But they had to cancel, funny thing is we were looking forward to it and it hadn't been 24 hours since seeing it;)

Ok, just picked up the SD DVD.
So now I can test the 'audio' problems people complain about.;)

For those that recall, I had 4 of these on HD DVD. (sold 2)
And did get around to checking that both of the 2 I still had, were the same.

For those that have no clue what I am saying....
Some people claim that their HD DVD disc was really lacking in the bass dept.
And I had bought 4 of them from different sources, just to check the audio.

Will get around to the SD DVD tomorrow night, for comparison..:)

And all four of yours on HD sounded fine to you?
