Back in the late 60s and early 70s I had friends who kept insisting that I listen to their new Pink Floyd LP. Never cared for the group at that time. By the time that 'Dark Side of the Moon' came out in '74 they'd stopped playing Floyd at me.
Dark Side of the Moon seemed to become a standard test record which hifi reviewers used to test systems (along with Also sprach
Zarathustra). It was also acclaimed as one of the greatest rock albums of all time.
I came across a YouTube vid the other day which was comparing the first 30 seconds of the track 'Money' on original LP, remastered LP, fancy cassette version, hi-res download, standard CD and third generation master tape. Of course they all sounded much the same via YouTube.
Anyway, as I'd never heard the album I decided to listen to it. And I can confirm that playing the 96kHz/24bit from Amazon Music direct to the Yamaha (A2080 actually) it does sound better quality than the versions on YouTube. It still sounds like pretentious boring Pink Floyd usual stuff to me though.
So maybe it's just my personal taste? Or are all the listeners high on LSD? Hmmm.
Much better than rap though.
