I suspect more your TV than the AVR at this point... We have both the RX-A8A with an AppleTV 4k as source, I don't have any issue with HDCP set to auto (everything set as default). Using Hdmi1 AVR output to the eArc HDMI TV Input. Switching my AppleTV on switch both AVR and TV On... Using them 16 hours a day for more than a month now without any issue. I don't say that your AVR isn't at fault, maybe something broke, but if it's not a failure, then I will try to check what happens between the AVR and the TV.... Maybe there is something to tweak in the TV hdcp settings ?
Today was the first time when this happened. I will restart the TV too. You might be right. Thank you.

Depending on your TV brand there is lots of advice on the web regarding handshake issues. Seems there is a company making devices to deconflict and harmonize the disconnects-“HDMI fury.” I too just went through a bunch of handshake issues and then they eventually resolved, curiously, after I used the TV’s smart apps and then used eARC to get sound. After that all my externals worked fine too. I’m not trusting this solution since I don’t understand how it resolved anything.

Just finished the RX-A6A review, I won't disclose any content of course, won't be fair.
I now know
And there is nothing worse than not knowing and trying to imaging what it could be ;)
So you'll be missed here. I am assuming after reading the report you're boxing your unit up and sending it back ASAP. ;)

Yes it's done, I bought some magnets and wood planks to build my own speakers, and an iron soldering thing to build my own avr. This Yamaha and B&W aren't able to get 0.00000000001% THD-N and 459dB SINAD. It's not worth the hearing.

I am also building my own TV panel as colors aren't accurate in the infrared and ultra violet range...

Yep it's total junk I tell ya. I'm waiting for the wave of "Nay Sayers" to jump in here any time now.

Tricky world out there in audio land today, and paying more doesn't guarantee anything. Thankfully, I had a smaller room to fill and just wanted to upgrade to what works with some of the new stuff. I bought a cheap Denon AVR-S760H and a TCL 6 series 4K TV. The new Apple TV works great, no handshake issues with the or the Sony Ultra Blu Ray, and the receiver is adequate for the room. Even when the ATV switched the Denon to Dolby Atmos (I have a 3.1 system with older Polk towers and a center channel), it was actually thunderous. Makes me wince when I listen to regular TV broadcasts, they may upgrade their content in a decade or so. First receiver I've ever had that got all of the FM stations with the cheap wire antenna, even the powered Terks didn't work on my old Pioneer.

I read where Yamaha and others had a board fix that would be available to all affected customers, did this already happen, did it work?

All this process of board replacement and firmware update is for the RX-V.. 2020 lineup if I am correct. For the RX-A.A 2021 the hardware is supposed to be ready to support hdmi 2.1, but will need a firmware update expected for february.

What's the first thing your gonna try out once your A8A gets the updates? VRR? 4k 120? Those updates outside of Aurora D thing are for just Video right?

I will try to make the damn Atmos working with PC->AVR->TV when playing in 4k HDR 120Hz..
Right now I have an issue where Atmos isn't working this way. The only way to get it to work is to get PC->TV->eArc AVR but I have a 400ms sound lag which is awful.

Yeah, that would not be fun.

Do you not have the ability to output two HDMI signals at once? I know my video card only has one HDMI out, but it has enough display ports that an adapter can easily help with the sound issue side of things. I've done this in the past for the same reason you are. It works, but it's a bit of a pain.

Less of one than you are currently dealing with though.

It's really a Dolby Access issue. Atmos videos are working perfectly from the PC, it's only games...

Ah. I hadn't played much with that since my office AVR doesn't have Atmos...yet.

I would personally set my speaker preference to whatever it allows and let the AVR upmix instead of the PC.

Now, if MS actually uses sounds in the game as objects in Atmos, then that would be different.

Great, now I want to see how my HTPC in the theater acts with all this. I can stream games to it so that might be interesting.

What's better to use, PS5, XBox or PC for gaming.
A PC can go from monster build that cost thousands of dollars, handle VR, any simulation gear etc... Less user friendly, able to run anything...
Consoles are easier to use. They cost less than an equivalent PC...
It really depends on what you want o play !

I'm trying to understand why the AVR market is just starting to cater to gamers. So it's that important to integrate AVR's for gamers.

PC gamers most often use a very good monitor that performs better than TVs and good headphones...
It's more consoles that now start to integrate surround sound as the console is now also a streaming media thing...
