Well, that will teach you to talk about small sealed subs, favorably. How dare you. Big ported subs have feelings too, you know. Now you go and apologize, young man, and tell those ported boxes you didn't mean to diminish their usefulness.
I don't know how I feel about you using the same meme for Auditor that you used for me...

:p :p

I just spoke a little favorably about small sealed subs and all hell broke out. :)
Again. Why? There was ZERO relevance.

So I’ll clearly ask you.
What was the point of mentioning that at all?

I've experienced this myself. When I finally got the right sized (larger) subs for my space, I at first thought something was wrong because they did seem quieter after calibration. I really think it's because the subs I had before were struggling to fill the room so they were distorting. That added noise, but subtly enough that I didn't hear it outright as distortion. It was enough to dirty things up and add noise tho, and when it was gone I perceived it as being quieter. What it really is, is clean bass and it had the effect of cleaning up the entire performance.
I know that from experience as well. I went from a Yamaha sub that was struggling to a HSU and then a SVS. Clear, articulate bass may sound "quieter" when you initially hear it because there's no artifacts that you were hearing before.

I read most of the comments here and respond thereto. I'm not responding only to the original poster, but to some of the comments being made in response.

Maybe you should read enough to know the context of the thread and understand the reasoning behind subsequent replies.

Agreed. I don’t think the whole listen space is that big. PLUS it’s in a duplex. Yikes!
Still, four would be nice.
Let me do this.

Get a ported sub rather than a sealed sub unless you can't handle the bigger box that usually comes with.
shadyJ:
You should have upgraded to a ported subwoofer, not a small sealed sub
Pogre:
PS, a well designed ported sub is every bit as tight and musical as a sealed sub. Only with better deep bass performance. The only advantage to going sealed is the smaller form factor. That's it. Always go ported when you can.
Auditor:
Ported Subs just take up too much space, they're not that good for certain rooms.
William:
You mean your room?
Auditor:
Exactly, and many other people like me.
Now the attack should have ended after the previous quote.

Probably isn’t that big but if it’s all open that’s a lot of air to fill up . The duplex thing would kill my whole setup lol I be evicted in a short period of time . Heck my mother in law lives near to us like 40 feet to her house now the old girl is 90 and sometimes with a late evening movie she’ll call my wife and swear she hears thunder ! A duplex would be bad for me :

For as obstinate as your posting was, I thought it was quite civil.
I really didn't post anything that wasn't true, or even in disagreement with some of the other posts. I kind of spoke favorably about sealed subs which a guess brought the wrath down upon me.
