Sb-1000 pro not loud enough

everyone take a drink (this is in reference to our un/official AH drinking game)

A well designed ported sub will be just as tight and musical as a well designed sealed sub. That's a very large room for a single sealed 12". If you're inclined to keep it, going near field may be your best bet. Otherwise I'd look into upgrading to at least PB 2000 pro
With that room size, He would need at least two PB2000 Pros. IMO, three would be better for a smoother acoustical response.

Do you think the pb1000 pro will be as loud as a polk psw505? I would hate to get it and be underwhelmed again but I also don't want something that will have my neighbors calling the cops on me lol
Don't turn it up when your neighbors are home! Most systems have a way of containing bass frequencies for late night viewing. Even if yours doesn't there's always volume controls!

PS, a well designed ported sub is every bit as tight and musical as a sealed sub. Only with better deep bass performance. The only advantage to going sealed is the smaller form factor. That's it. Always go ported when you can. I am completely unsurprised you find the SB1000 Pro lacking. I had a pair of them (older, non pro series) and they were seriously lacking in my room, which is smaller than your space!

I'm not so sure the SB1000 would have much more output. Possibly even less. The PSW is a ported sub.
For some reason I read it as PB, not SB, so yes, the SB won't have as much oomph.

Yup. The other part of your post however...
Calibrate it and give it some time. Usually going from a one note sub to one that has range and clean bass, it might sound like it is doing less when it is actually just doing what it is supposed to.
I've experienced this myself. When I finally got the right sized (larger) subs for my space, I at first thought something was wrong because they did seem quieter after calibration. I really think it's because the subs I had before were struggling to fill the room so they were distorting. That added noise, but subtly enough that I didn't hear it outright as distortion. It was enough to dirty things up and add noise tho, and when it was gone I perceived it as being quieter. What it really is, is clean bass and it had the effect of cleaning up the entire performance.

Wattage among subs is only relevant if they're of equal sensitivity. Not much to go on.

Get a ported sub rather than a sealed sub unless you can't handle the bigger box that usually comes with.

The diameter of a sub is somewhat indicative but not everything, altho as they say no replacement for displacement. Personally I look to 15 or 18s myself.
Ported Subs just take up too much space, they're not that good for certain rooms. I have an SB 1000 in my small bedroom and love it, punchy, tight, clean, and get loud enough. Don't have to worry about any port chuffing as well. :)

Such as? Rooms physically too small for ported..? That's the only thing I can think of. Otherwise given a choice I always go with ported.

Right, you can't use a ported sub in certain rooms, they are useless in certain spaces, so therefore we need high-performance sealed subs.

Exactly, and many other people like me. Not all of us have man caves :)
Not all of us have spaces too small. It’s all relative. So statements like “ported subs are just too big” just don’t add anything. Especially when his space is like forty feet long!!! Imo, your statement is irrelevant, save for sharing about your room.

What does this have to do with this thread or the op's situation in a 17' x 40' room? Seems to me you're basing this on aesthetics and not performance. Most of us prefer better performance over a smaller box. It's not like a ported sub literally "can't be used". It just doesn't visually work for you...

My room is so congested, if you saw it, you would agree. Not a lot of space. Even the smallest of most ported subs from SVS is too big for my room. There are people like me that choose sealed subs for that reason. Ported subs are not even a consideration for us under those circumstances.

It's primarily space not looks, that we choose sealed over ported.
